Originally created by Ahn Gil-ho and Yoo Je-won, The Stranger is a South Korean crime thriller series that was taken over by Park Hyun-suk for its second season. Studio Dragons created this series for TVN, which is produced by Signal Entertainment and IOK Media. TVN first aired this series on June 10, 2017, and the network has already ordered a second season, set for release on August 15, 2020.
Stranger Season 3
Lee Soo-Yeon, who created this show and is developing the plot for subsequent seasons, is the show’s writer. Domestic and international audiences alike praised the show’s tightly wound plot, dramatic set pieces, and stellar acting. It won many awards, including the Grand Prize for Television at the Baeksang Arts Awards, and made The New York Times’ list of the best television programs of 2017.
Author Lee Soo-Yeon was moved to create the series’ protagonist, Si-Mok, by the Korean adage “We cannot dominate those who seek nothing.” For the first season, Ahn Gil-ho directed alongside Yoo Je-won, and for the second season, Park Hyun-seok took over behind the camera.
Stranger Season 3 Renewal Status
There has been no official word yet on whether or not ‘Stranger’ will return for a third season. The Korean drama series was created by TVN, a South Korean company, despite its availability on Netflix. Therefore, Netflix may not have complete control over the renewal. The network is reportedly “discussing the possibility of season 3.” However, no official confirmation of its renewal has been made as of yet.
According to Nielsen TV ratings, Stranger has done quite well in South Korea. This bodes well for the show’s chances of being renewed. An impressive 4.652% of all viewers in the country tuned in for the premiere of the K drama’s first season. The second season garnered an even larger percentage of viewers (7.26%). Unlike other Korean dramas, ‘Stranger’ was always meant to run for multiple seasons. Therefore, the likelihood of its comeback is quite strong.
Stranger Season 3 Release Date
As we’ve already established, The Stranger is among the best Korean crime thrillers ever made. The show’s plot is so tightly wound that it will keep you hooked until you’ve seen every episode. The seamless integration of the crime and the characters’ stories into Lee Soo-Yeon’s script is nothing short of brilliant. But it could fall flat in the middle, where viewers might find it drag.
There has been no such development as of the third episode. Neither the producer nor the distributor has made a final decision. Fans are worried about whether or not the show will receive an upgrade in order to accommodate the 2020 release of the second season.

Stranger Season 3 Plot
The protagonists of “Stranger” are the brilliant prosecutor Hwang Si-mok (Cho Seung-woo) and the police lieutenant Han Yeo-jin (Bae Doona), who work together to solve a murder. They have a hard time getting anywhere with their investigations because of those who are in on a massive plot involving the Prosecutor’s Office and a massive South Korean company. Season 2 finds the duo working together once more despite tensions between their respective organizations. They decide to work together to uncover the truth about a mysterious case.
Season 3 has not been officially renewed, hence there is no official plot summary or synopsis available at this time. If the program does get picked up for a third season, it would make sense for it to continue up just where season two left off.
