A French adaptation of a science fiction novel Given the story, it’s hardly surprising that Osmosis was compared to Black Mirror. Osmosis, a tech company founded by brother and sister duo Paul and Esther, has developed a case carrying an insert that, when swallowed, enters the brain and ostensibly mixes people with their ideal spouses.
According to Aknine, Osmosis isn’t really a fantasy show. This play takes place in the relatively near future. The theme of the genre is romantic love. No other era, director Julius Berg remarked, “felt so associated but so detached.” Our capacity for love is severely damaged.
Audrey Fouché created the French science fiction web series Osmosis. The first season premiered on Netflix on March 29, 2019, and features eight episodes. Netflix made the decision to end the show after its first season on January 17, 2020. This program originated in France and aired in the United States with English subtitles.
Osmosis Season 2 Renewal Status
Unfortunately, in early 2020, Netflix decided to terminate Osmosis Season 2. However, Rotten Tomatoes users overwhelmingly praised the pilot episode of the first season. The critics agreed that it was “thoughtful and refreshing,” maybe because it gives viewers a chance to see their hopes and concerns reflected in unexpected ways. Despite the fact that the series had its origins in France, it was never able to win over the country’s viewers.
Netflix has not commented on the discontinuation of Osmosis Season 2. The constant upheaval at Netflix, though, likely accounts for a large portion of the cancellations of popular shows. The streaming service dropped several programs in 2018 that failed to attract enough viewers. It comes as a big surprise that Netflix has decided to pull the plug on three brand-new French series.
Osmosis Storyline
Osmosis is a French science fiction show developed by Audrey Fouché. In this fictional account, siblings Esther and Paul create a technological implant that can identify a person’s soulmate. However, the technology is not as straightforward as it first appears, what with unhappy test subjects and a creepily intelligent AI. The show makes it clear that people, not technology, are the problem.
The science fiction thriller, which is set in near-future Paris, follows the creation of a new dating app called “Osmosis” that can interpret real love by scouring users’ brain data for a perfect match. But is there a cost to allowing an algorithm to use technology that may access your most private thoughts and feelings to choose who you will love?

Osmosis Season 1 Review
Osmosis, a fascinating and thought-provoking series set in a futuristic Paris, is about a man trying to find love in a society where everything is progressively digitalized. There’s a lot of stuff going on in Osmosis’ eight episodes, what with all the subplots that are woven into the main storyline, but the show’s constant pacing and turns along the way make it well worth your time.
So much for the prologue; now we get to the meat of the story, which has Paul and Esther, a brother and sister team, running the show at their company and recruiting 12 volunteers to try out the implant before it’s given to the public. The tale splits in two at this point, with equal time spent on the people taking the test and the board members trying to get rid of Paul.
Osmosis is a well-written sci-fi journey full of unexpected twists and turns that raise some profound themes about love and relationships. Osmosis has decent character development and an attractive visual style, so it stands a fair chance of standing out from the crowd despite inevitable comparisons to Black Mirror. Osmosis poses a pertinent question as our reliance on technology grows: can we rely on technology solely to find genuine love?
Osmosis Season 2: Will it ever return?
Netflix has ambitious plans to produce top-notch shows in French. However, it appears that Netflix was disappointed with the quality of the French offerings. Furthermore, it is relatively pricey when put in context with the cost of producing Osmosis Season 2. Therefore, a second season from Netflix is highly doubtful. At their 2018 press conference, Netflix stated that renewal is conditional only on the show’s average viewership on Netflix compared to the production costs.
