Numerous series have depicted shady characters who will do anything to further their careers in politics, the more honorable politicians who must balance ambition and ethics, the kingmakers, and everyone else who has a hand in politics. However, these narratives are so preoccupied with political intrigue that they rarely focus on ordinary people whose lives are shaped by government policy.
That’s why ‘Years and Years’ stands apart from other shows of its kind; the writers put a lot of thinking into it. Russell T. Davies (‘Queer as Folk,’ ‘Doctor Who’) devised this series that spans a family’s life over the length of fifteen years to assess the influence of a politician’s views. The premiere airs on BBC One in the United Kingdom, while HBO is in charge of the American broadcast. The show has been directed by Simon Cellan Jones and Lisa Mulcahy. Along with Michaela Fereday, Lucy Richer, and Nicola Shindler, Jones serves as an executive producer on the show. The producer is Karen Lewis.
Years and Years Season 2 Renewal Status
Season two of Years or Years has not been confirmed or denied. Since Queer as Folk’s cancellation in 2000, none of Russell T. Davies’ original series have returned for a second season. There was just one season of Bob & Rose, and the same is expected of Years and Years. The same goes for The Second Coming, Mine All Mine, Casanova, Cucumber, and A Very English Scandal.
Because the first season of Years and Years covers the years 2019–2034, it’s possible that a second season will never be made. As Davies pointed out, the show has been somewhat about trying to foretell the future of the modern world, and it may become increasingly impossible to do so beyond a certain point.
Years and Years Season 2 Release Date
The first episode of Season 1 of ‘Years and Years’ debuted on BBC One on May 14, 2019. On June 24, 2019, it premiered on HBO. The series has been well-received so far for its innovative plot that uses the current global political climate to examine our future. When lightheartedness is combined with serious subject matter, the result is a narrative that is both informative and enjoyable. The cast’s overall performance was praised for its success in making its characters feel real to the audience.
There has been no official word yet on when production for Season 2 will begin. Given the show’s popularity, it seems unlikely that it won’t be renewed for a second season. If ‘Years and Years’ is indeed renewed, we anticipate a second season premiere in May 2020. As soon as we have additional information, we will provide an update here.
