White Lines Season 2: Did The Show Get Renewed?

With the murderer exposed at the end of season 1 of the Netflix crime thriller White Lines, the big question is whether or not the plot will continue into season 2. White Lines is a Netflix original series starring Laura Haddock as Zoe Walker, who, 20 years after her brother’s disappearance, discovers his mummified remains in the desert and is desperate to learn the truth about his death. White Lines was created by Pablo Pina, who previously created the successful Netflix original series Money Heist in Spanish.

Upon seeing her brother’s pals again in Ibiza, Zoe becomes suspicious that they are keeping something from her. She also becomes involved with the Calafats, a rich family that owns several of the clubs on the island and is plotting to construct a casino. In particular, Zoe develops feelings for Boxer (Nuno Lopes), the Calafats’ bodyguard and enforcer, which put her marriage and family in Manchester in jeopardy. In White Lines, the current day is intercut with recollections of the past as Zoe investigates the death of her brother. Season 2 of White Lines has a lot of potential, but when can viewers anticipate seeing it?

White Lines Season 2 Story Details

White Lines season 1 focuses on the investigation into the death and burial of Zoe’s brother, the famous young DJ Axel Collins (Tom Rhys Harries). While Zoe first blames the Calafats, it is later discovered that Axel was really slain by his pals Anna (Angela Griffin) and Marcus (Daniel Mays). Since the crime occurred over 20 years ago, authorities are no longer actively seeking justice, therefore Anna should not worry about going to jail. Nonetheless, she is left in an uncomfortable position at the conclusion of the season, having married another man despite her continued feelings for Marcus.

When Zoe’s brother and father die, she seeks closure by scattering their ashes in the ocean. In season 2 of White Lines, she still has to decide whether to visit her family in Manchester or remain in Ibiza to further her love for Boxer. Taking full control of the island’s drug trade is the Calafats’ latest attempt at consolidating power, and if she stays, she risks being engaged in the conflict. The murder of Axel may have been solved, but there is still plenty more drama to unfold.

White Lines Season 2 Release Date

It looks like Netflix has no plans to bring back White Lines for a second season. Midway through May of this year, the series premiered and immediately became one of the streamer’s most popular offerings across many nations. However, the streaming service has been unusually silent on the show’s future, forcing the cast to make the announcement themselves. Angela Griffin and Daniel Mays have broken the shocking news to the cast of White Lines that the show has been canceled after a single season.

Why was White Lines canceled?

Netflix is notoriously private about its specific viewing data, so we don’t know for sure why White Lines was discontinued. However, the series was consistently among Netflix’s top 10 most-watched programs over the course of many weeks, suggesting strong viewership throughout. Co-star Daniel Mays thinks the show was canceled because of the worldwide scope of production and the rather tense conclusion of the first season.

Despite the show’s potential for more development, he told NME, “Part of me thinks it was tied up; you found out who killed Axel, so it works as a limited series, but it clearly also had scope going forward for much more. “And of course, it was filmed across [several] countries, so there is that to consider too right now with travel issues, which are a challenge.”
