To the Wedding, Everyone! KakaoTV has released its newest original Korean drama, titled Hell. The low episode count (12) and very short running times (about 37 minutes apiece) of many of its predecessors suggested that this show would be ideal for a quick binge.
In the drama, we meet these two naive lovers just as their proposal almost goes horribly wrong. That, plus the fact that it’s a great time. Welcome to Wedding Hell doesn’t seem to take itself seriously at first, and even if you have some doubts about how these two grownups have survived thus far, you end up rooting for them.
To its credit, the drama makes an effort to diverge from this formula by taking us beyond a pivotal juncture in a key relationship, but the lack of complexity and care here ultimately works against it. Na-eun and Jun-hyeong don’t develop much, and the dynamics of their relationship don’t improve enough to make the story’s resolution satisfying. The bright side is that despite their ongoing communication problems, they are lovable as a pair when things are going well.
In general, the production values are on par with what I’d anticipate from a high-quality YouTube web drama. Maybe with more adult writing and a consistent episode length of 10 to 12 minutes, this drama could have been successful. However, if you’re in the mood for some mindless entertainment, Welcome to Wedding Hell will do the trick.
