Why was Spinning Out Season 2 canceled?

In a story about Netflix’s decision not to renew Spinning Out, Deadline says, “Netflix, which goes straight-to-series on all of its shows, examines viewing (and awards recognition) vs. cost for each show when making a renewal decision.” Therefore, it’s entirely possible that Spinning Out’s 10 episodes weren’t watched by enough people to warrant paying for a second season.
The potential for “awards recognition” and, by extension, lots of bragging rights for Netflix makes that statement interesting as well, suggesting that a low-rated show might still be renewed for a second season. The streaming service probably didn’t see any use in continuing the series after it received a 59 percent rating on the Tomatometer.

Spinning Out Season 2 Expected Plot
In the first season of Spinning Out, when Kat and Justin’s first start skating together, their instructor Dasha (Svetlana Efremova) thinks they have a year to go before they’re ready for the Olympic track. When they finish eighth in their regional short program, it looks like they’ve already failed. Kat, however, decides to forego her lithium in favor of increased energy and self-assurance. She and Justin increase their score by adding challenging jumps to their long program, but Kat swiftly descends into a manic episode when she forgets to take her bipolar medicine.
Kat and Justin persevere through all of the challenges they face to participate in sectionals, and their routine at the competition seems to begin from a place of trust and comfort for the two of them. We shouldn’t anticipate them to start season 2 having failed to qualify for nationals, thus they should move up in competition levels throughout the season. Competitors Leah (Kaitlyn Leeb) and Gabe (Johnny Weir), whom Justin and Kat face off against frequently, will also be present at the Olympics. Is Kat going to be able to handle the pressure of the competition, or will she relapse and stop taking her medication?

All ten episodes of the first season debuted on the same day, January 1, 2020. So, nearly a year and a half have passed since the end of season one.
