Fans were eagerly expecting the release of Netflix’s horror project “Ju-On: Origins” since it was first announced. True enough. There have been 13 films in the “Ju-On,” or “The Grudge,” franchise so far, not counting the numerous novels, short films, video games, and comics based on the same source material. Those who are familiar with the plot of “The Grudge” know that it centers on a curse whose origins can be traced back to the murder of a mother, her kid, and the family cat by the patriarch of the family. And what followed after that is an endless saga, repeating the same story over and over again.
Obviously, Netflix’s TV adaptation is an ambitious approach to a subject that has proven its longevity throughout time. As the first Japanese horror original, ‘Ju-On: Origins takes us back to the beginning of the haunted house that has been terrifying audiences ever since. ‘Ju-On: Origins’ has concluded its first season, and here is everything you need to know about the upcoming second season.
Ju-On: Origins Season 2 Renewal Status
The second season of Ju-On: Origins has not been officially approved as of yet. There are a number of factors at play here. As a result, the film industry is unsure of whether it can start new projects or even finish the ones it’s already working on. Potentially delaying renewal status and filming by a year or more would be setbacks in the global recovery from the COVID-19 epidemic.
Ju-On: Origins Season 2 Release Date
Season 1 of ‘Ju-On: Origins’ debuted on Netflix on July 3, 2020. There were six episodes, each lasting half an hour. The ratings will be the only determinant of whether or not a second season is ordered. It’s common knowledge that the plot of ‘Ju-On’ may theoretically continue on for decades; the acclaimed horror franchise could never be completed. Once again, ‘Origins’ was a success simply due to the franchise’s preexisting fame, particularly among diehard fans of the prequel films. If the show’s viewership meets Netflix’s projections, we should expect news of a second season announcement in the near future. Season 2 of ‘Ju-On: The Origins will premiere in late 2021 once the streaming service has given its approval.
Ju-On: Origins Season 2 Expected Plot
The first season of Ju-On: Origins consists of only six episodes, and its conclusion raises many concerns that won’t be answered until the second season premieres. It’s likely that they’ll stick with the anthology-style format of the show while delving more into the origins of the curse. It’s possible the story will pivot to focus on Yasuo Odajima and explain his role in the curse and events of The Grudge’s timeline.
Season 1 left a lot of room for the show’s continuation; Ju-On: Origins has only just begun its investigation into a sinister and deadly curse. The potential for growth in Season 2 is high. Yasuo Odajima’s quest to learn the origins of a big curse that has haunted a Japanese home for decades will certainly continue into season 2, although the plot may be more nuanced and involved than season 1 suggested.

Ju-On: Origins Season 1 Recap
At the beginning of ‘Origins,’ we meet a journalist who is interested in investigating reported cases of the supernatural. He encounters an actress who is worried that her boyfriend, who visited the cursed mansion, may have brought the evil with him. But after the horrible accident that befalls the actress, the reporter gets fixated on the home. But in the same house, a group of teens viciously rape one of their classmates.
The human capacity for horror is given greater attention in the violent “Origins” series. The curse is ever-present, but the story is also rife with the atrocities committed against women and children, most often at the hands of men. The show then ties each of the subplots back to “The Grudge,” the show’s overarching ghost story. It recounts the historical circumstances that led up to the 1998 episode depicted in the movies. Moreover, Netflix’s claim that ‘Origins’ follows the roots of ‘Ju-On’ essentially means that the show weaves together different character arcs and puzzles in order to provide answers to larger issues about humanity. The ending is not a cliffhanger but rather the beginning of a story that will continue for not just one but numerous seasons.
