Devil in Ohio Season 1 Review
Devil in Ohio is one of those shows that divide people and can’t decide what kind of show it wants to be. On the one hand, this is a deep dive into the world of satanic rituals and the dangers of cults, as well as the mental trauma that can come with that. It’s also, strangely, a soapy teen drama. It’s a weird mix of genres that helps explain why the show isn’t very good.
The key to a plot like this is always a good hook, and The Devil in Ohio has a juicy one. A mysterious girl runs with a knife through a cornfield until she is found and taken to the hospital. There, Suzanne Mathis treats her, and she and the mysterious girl get along right away. All of this fits well into the story, but it seems very different from the teen drama, which takes away from the tension. As Mae gets closer to Jules, the middle child who doesn’t get along with Helen, her older sister, all the usual clichés start to show up. I won’t get into details, but things like bullying, drinking at parties, and jealousy always show up.
