The plot centers on Isadir, Carlos’s mother, and Alice’s mother-in-law. Story-wise, she had been living with her son and daughter-in-law ever since the pandemic hit. But she’s different from other mothers-in-law. Unique, eccentric, and mischievous best describe her. She is indeed cunning and sneaky. You won’t believe it at first, but as you see the program, you just might. Carlos’s biological mother was not Isadir.
In every episode, the mother-in-law is the source of conflict. It’s commonly believed that the son will do something bad and end up in jail, while the mother will come to his rescue. Smother-In-Law Season 2 Review
Some of the more compelling forms of humor today are sitcoms. It’s hilarious thanks to the use of multiple cameras, the inclusion of a laugh track, and the theatrical reading of the script. Smother-in-Law is not a terrific sitcom like the others that have been shown this year. Despite the obvious gender-bending outfit that was meant for physical comedy, the show’s potential for entertainment was made plain by the sporadic spurts of energy and the substantial lulls in the hilarity.
However, the show’s premise causes several issues that undermine the quality of the writing, which isn’t horrible. The characters are poorly developed; there are a lot of protagonists, and Isadir exudes an air of invulnerability that makes one wonder why anyone in the family tolerates her. The only consistent driving force in the show is the shenanigans that occur in each episode, which are then miraculously resolved. This season has not featured a more compelling story arc.
The sole redeeming quality of this episode is that Isadir is allowed to fully and healthily explore her sexuality. She makes wholesome sex jokes with her children and grandchildren and lets them choose how they want to express themselves. Even though her interest is often completely inappropriate, the fact that she carries sex toys and has a healthy libido is probably the only redeeming quality of the show.
