Based on a concept by Jan Theys, the Dutch criminal drama series ‘Undercover’ was developed by Nico Moolenaar, Piet Matthys, and Bart Uytdenhouwen. Based on actual events, the program follows undercover officers Bob Lemmens and Kim De Rooij as they masquerade as a couple in order to infiltrate a drug network and capture the drug lord at its center. In season 3, however, everything changes when Bob begins working with cocaine boss Ferry Bouman.
In February 2019, the criminal drama made its debut on the Belgian channel Eén. Success led to the show’s debut on Netflix on May 3, 2019. The dramatic plot, interesting characters, and subtle humor have all garnered high acclaim. After witnessing the third installment, it’s only natural to want to see what happens next. Let’s see if we can find out whether a fourth round is even possible.
Undercover Season 4 Renewal Status
Whether or not Undercover will return for a fourth season is still up in the air. However, the possibility is most definitely present. Stopping now would be financial suicide for Netflix and the Belgian TV station One. After three seasons, Undercover still receives mostly positive reviews, despite the occasional negative one. And most significantly, on strong audience numbers.
A fourth season of Undercover would surely be successful again, so the potential is there. Therefore, there are currently zero issues. It’s the same with the actors. Several high-profile individuals have said in interviews that they would be interested in returning for season 4 of Undercover.
What is Undercover about?
The storyline centers on undercover officers infiltrating the operation of a drug lord in Limburg, a region of Flanders bordering the Netherlands. Two operatives, Bob Lemmens (Tom Waes) and Kim de Rooij (Anna Drijver), infiltrate the campsite where the drug kingpin spends his weekends acting as a married couple.
Season 3 opens with Bob having lost his job as a police officer and a criminal case potentially leading to a jail term tied to him. After doing time for drug trafficking, Ferry finds out that another group has usurped his position as an ecstasy kingpin. Serkan and Leila Bulut (Murat Seven and Nazmiye Oral) are at the helm of the newly formed, highly organized gang. When an undercover police officer is killed, suspicions of a mole inside the force arise. Patrick Diericks (Jeroen Van Der Ven) has one idea, and that’s to have Bob go undercover with the Bulut gang and find the murderer. In return for dropping the charges against him, he will get this. Bob is at a loss for what to do, so he takes the job. He runs into Ferry Bouman once again.

Undercover season 3 ending explained
In the series finale of Undercover, Leyla takes her kids and leaves her husband and the new gangster, Serkan, behind. One of her greatest challenges is now confronting her. She had to go away since she knew her problems would only get worse. When it becomes clear that Leyla is falling into Bob’s trap, we can’t help but feel sympathetic for her. Bob’s scheme results in the eventual arrest of Leyla and Serkan. Leyla’s expression betrays her desire for vengeance, which might set up an exciting plot point for Season 4.
Undercover Season 4 Plot
In the third season, Bob and Ferry form an uneasy alliance to bring down drug boss Serkan and his wife, Leyla. But there are some surprising story twists towards the conclusion of the season, such as when Ferry turns on Bob and aims a pistol at his head. However, he gives up and lets Bob go. Bob finally returns home to his family at the end of the season and tosses his pistol down a bridge. Ferry, on the contrary hand, is seen in a dilapidated drug lab, staring out into space.
Season 4 (if it happens) will probably focus on what happens next following the events of Season 3. Despite the fact that tensions between Bob and Ferry eventually explode, Ferry does not end up shooting Bob to death. In addition, Ferry seems to be having second thoughts about his criminal career, while Bob is overjoyed to be home with his loved ones again. Consequently, the future of their relationship is intriguing to contemplate. If the program is brought back, there will undoubtedly be many more surprising plot turns and new, unforgettable characters introduced.
