What If…? Season 3 Release Date, Cast, Plot, and Everything You Need to Know
Based just on Marvel Comics series of the same name, What If…? is an American animated anthology show made by A. C. Bradley again for streaming service Disney+.
It is the fourth TV show inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) made by Marvel Studios. It is also the first animated show made by Marvel Studios.
The show looks at different versions of the past in the multiverse to see what would have happened if major events from the MCU movies had gone differently. The first two seasons are written by Bradley, and Bryan Andrews is in charge of the show’s direction.
As that of the movie’s narrator, Jeffrey Wright plays this same Watcher, and so many MCU movie actors also reprise their roles. By the close of 2018, Bradley as well as Andrews had signed on to work on the Marvel Studios-made series for Disney+. In April 2019, it was made official.
Ryan Meinerding, who is in charge of visual development at Marvel Studios, helped come up with the cel-shaded animation style for the series. This style was meant to look like the movies and take some inspiration from classic American illustrators.
The animation for the first season was done by Blue Spirit, Squeeze, Flying Bark Productions, as well as Stellar Creative Lab. Animation is in control of Stephan Franck.
As part of Phase Four of the MCU, the first season of What If…? started on August 11, 2021, as well as ran for nine occurrences until October 6, 2021. Phase 5 will likely have a second season with nine episodes, and a season 3 is in the works.
Most of the reviews for the series have been good. People have said good things about the voice acting, animation, as well as creative storylines and scenarios, but they have also said bad things about the length of each incident and the writing. A Marvel Zombies show is being made based on a single of the “What If?” episodes.
Even though we eventually discovered out someone killed Jake and who Simon Says is, this show won’t let us rest easy because season two left us with more questions than before.
The door has indeed been left wide open for further stories about the Bayview Elevated group, though, since Karen M. McManus is working on a third novel and season two left us with a bloody cliffhanger.
What If…? Season 3 Release Date
Season 3 is rumoured to come out in 2025, which has been marked as “TBD.” Even though it’s not clear what this “TBD” tag is all about, it probably means that Season 3 is less likely to come out in 2025. Marvel Studios as well as Disney have not said anything about this or confirmed it.
What If…? Season 3 Cast
Actors from Shang-Chi, Eternals, as well as other Phase 4 shows might lend their voices to the season 2 cast of What If…?
There is a lot of top Hollywood talent in these movies, like Simu Liu, Kumail Nanjiani, Angelina Jolie, and Florence Pugh. So far, What If…? has shown that Marvel can get some of its big names to say a few lines.
We still don’t know who will play them again on screen, but you can be sure that we’ll be watching the known cosmos and beyond for more when we do.

What If…? Season 3 Plot
Given that the second season of What If…? is a collection of short stories, the plot could go almost anywhere. Expect a mix of MCU remixes, like Captain Carter, as well as adaptations of famous Elseworlds stories, like what was done with Marvel Zombies.
There’s a good chance that some of the franchise’s newer characters both good and evil will also be in the spotlight this time.
The show’s head writer, A.C. Bradley, told Entertainment Weekly, “There will be all new stories, a lot of fun, new heroes, and more from Phase 4 than we were able to use this season.”
“I hope we’ll see hints of characters like the Eternals, Shang-Chi, as well as Black Widow. What If…? is fun because it lets us explore the whole infinite universe, so humans try to jump wherever possible.”
We now know a few of the stories that are scheduled for season 2 thanks to the Marvel animated film panel at San Diego Comic-Con. We’ll probably see a story in which Hela is involved, Captain Carter meets the Winter Soldier, as well as Odin fights the Mandarin.
The second season is about what happens after Jake is killed. The gang gets threatening texts from someone who goes by the name “Simon Says” and says they know who did it (spoiler: it was Addy).
The Bayview 4 eventually found out that the messages were sent by Fiona, a new student who had met Jake in rehab and was the one who had been sending them. It turned that out Fiona and Jake were seeing each other behind Simon’s back, and Jake had her help with the cover-up.
They are able to make it look like Fiona killed Jake, so she is sent to prison. But then when Jake’s brother Cole comes to see her, she tells him she knows why Jake had been in rehab and shows him the video of a Murder Club trying to get rid of his body.
As the season ends, the Murder Club tries to continue living their lives. Nate gives Bronwyn a “Stay” necklace, but a flash forward more to graduation day shows that they haven’t left the woods yet.
The school is indeed a bloody scene of the crime, and prior to the credits roll, Bronwyn’s necklace is found and brought in as proof. So many queries Argh!
What went on at the ceremony? What does Fiona know that no one else does regarding Jake, and what could Cole had also done to keep that secret safe? How are the Bayview Four going to finish high school?
