In October of 2020, the film ‘Trickster,’ a supernatural thriller, bravely stormed the silver screen with a gripping display of magic at its gritty best. Indigenous kid Jared (Joel Oulette) is immersed in a magical realist universe in this series by Michelle Latimer and Tony Elliott. A talking raven, a terrifying hairless creature, and a mystery otherworldly double have all caused him consternation and left him perplexed.
As a result, Jared is in a bind as he attempts to make sense of the surprising developments in his new environment. Season 1’s acclaim stemmed, in large part, from its attention to and exploration of indigenous culture and mythology. What are the show’s prospects of returning for a second season after its first success? Is Season 2 of Trickster in the works? Let’s find out.
Trickster Season 2 Renewal Status
CBC has decided to cancel Trickster for a second season after co-creator and director Michelle Latimer was involved in a dispute about her claimed indigenous background. The CW picked up the series for broadcast in the United States, where it aired on January 12. At the halfway point of its six-episode run, the drama has already garnered respectable ratings for a relatively inexpensive buy. After CBC pulled the plug, the network will finish airing Season 1 episodes, but I have heard that they have no plans to continue the show as a CW original.
The drama is based on Eden Robinson’s book Son of a Trickster, and it stars newcomer Joel Oulette as a young heroin dealer and Indigenous Haisla in Kitimat, British Columbia, who begins to see supernatural occurrences around him. While writing scripts for Season 2, CBC broadcast a bombshell investigation in December challenging Latimer’s claims that she is of Algonquin, Metis, and French lineage, originally from the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg and Maniwaki region in Quebec. Two producers left Trickster in protest after the allegations, and Latimer finally resigned from the program after apologizing.
Trickster Storyline
The show centers on Jared, a 17-year-old who, despite being the youngest in his family, is treated like an adult in every respect. He attempts to maintain a regular high school life, focusing on his studies, but a sequence of incidents causes him to rethink who he is.
Jared is raised by his mother and father, who at first glance may be mistaken for any ordinary couple. Both his witch mother and shapeshifter father have magical abilities. That’s just insane, right? But Jared doesn’t know that his parents have mystical abilities; he has no concept that they exist.

Trickster Season 1 Recap
A baby’s cries may be heard in the woods as the opening scene of the first episode unfolds. Then, out of the shadows, a lady emerges and inquires, “Where are you going?” The dad, carrying the infant, leaves. The lady begs the guy to father her child. The man’s eyes completely darken whenever he stares at the lady. He then turns away from the girl. The lady screams and cries in agony. The show then flashes forward to the current day, when we see a young man walking down the street while listening to hip-hop on his headphones. A black dog approached him in an odd manner as he strolled carefreely down the road. The dramatic music just added to his terror of the dog as he took off fleeing.
The dog is killed when he is hit by a vehicle driven by a woman. One guy begins yelling “baby killer” at another. The man climbs inside, and the two of them speed off in a vehicle. The woman turns out to be his mom; she presents him with a cigar. Jared’s mom drives him to school, and in the afternoons, his instructor returns their graded work. The educator informs him he has the potential to improve and that he sees the school counselor after class.
Jared and the other youngster sit in the corridor and trade lunches. Dylan goes in, begins talking nonsense, and insults the other youngster, causing him to throw his food. When Jared returns home, he finds his living room packed with people. Jared retreats to his room and shuts the door. At first, Jared’s life seems to be rather typical, but then he learns about his family’s mystical ability.
Trickster Season 2 Plot
After Jared’s traumatic experience with Wade, the mythological figure known as a trickster, Season 2 may go more into Jared’s identity and his altered persona. Since the end of the previous season sent them on separate roads, Jared and Sarah may run into each other. Mave, Jared’s powerful aunt and a major player in “Trickster Drift,” the second novel in the trilogy on which season 2 is based, may also make an appearance in the next season.
Trickster Season 2 Release Date
Meanwhile, the CW has decided not to air the Canadian horror show. Unfortunately, it is not going to occur either. Trickster wasn’t canceled because of poor ratings, but rather because of the drama surrounding the show’s creator, Michelle Latimer. despite the fact that she had already left the program for Season 2, CBC opted to unrenewed it nevertheless.
Even though it was a rating triumph for The CW’s new purchase, the program won’t be back for a second season. The CW may choose to run the program all through the summer or in the middle of the season if they decide to save it.
Where to watch Trickster?
