The Midnight Club, the newest series on Netflix, is a great way to get to know Mike Flanagan’s horror world. It has scary stories told around a fire and scary dramas set in a youth hospice. But people who have seen his other series (Haunted Hill House, Bly Manor, and Midnight Mass) will be amazed after 10 episodes: the story isn’t over yet. The Midnight Club is not a miniseries, but rather a horror story that is meant to be told over several seasons.
The Midnight Club Season 2
The first season of The Midnight Club, which is based on the same-named 1994 book, is about a group of eight teens who are dying and are staying at Brightcliffe Hospice. Every night, they meet at the Midnight Club, which is where the show gets its name, and tell each other scary stories. Shortly after making a deal that the first person to die will talk to the others after death, someone dies, and then strange supernatural things start to happen at the hospice.

The Midnight Club Season 2 Renewal Status
Mike Flanagan, a modern master of the horror genre, made The Midnight Club, which was one of the best horror TV shows. When it came out on Netflix in early October, the Christopher Pike adaptation was praised by all critics, just like the director’s other show on the service. There was hope that the show would be decided to pick up for a second season because of the shocking cliffhanger ending. But fans of The Midnight Club will be sad to hear that Netflix has ended the teen horror show after just one season. Even though the reviews were great, The Wrap said that the biggest problem with the show was that not enough people watched it.
The Midnight Club was on Netflix’s Top 10 list for only three weeks. It started out at number 4 with 18.8 million hours watched. In its second week, it reached its highest point at number 3, but in its third week, it fell back to number 5. Because of shows like The Watcher and Dahmer, The Midnight Club fell out of the Top 10 completely in its fourth week. All of this made Netflix think that the number of viewers didn’t make up for the cost of season 2.

The Midnight Club Season 2 Plot
At the end of the first season of The Midnight Club, Julia Jayne told Samantha Sloan that she had never been healed by a cult or magical ritual. She is thought to be one of the lucky ones who got better from the disease that kills. But Ilonka didn’t learn this until much later. So, just as Julia was about to give her a tonic to drink, Dr. Stanton came along and stopped her.
From what Decider says, “If there is a second season, it will probably look into Dr. Stanton’s relationship with this cult in more depth. Also, most of the people at Rotterdam Home are still alive when The Midnight Club ends. With another episode, the series could tell more scary stories at night. In all honesty, this is how we should all talk about our bad experiences.”
The Midnight Club season 2 Release Date
Netflix pulled the plug on The Midnight Club in December 2022, so there won’t be a second season. This is disappointing because the show was supposed to go on forever.
The Midnight Club Season 1 Review
The Midnight Club takes place in the 1990s. It starts with Ilonka (Iman Benson), a top-of-her-class high school senior who is going to Stanford University in the fall. In a cruel turn of fate, Ilonka is told she has thyroid cancer. This means she has to put off her plans to go to an Ivy League school. When her cancer is said to be terminal, she opts to remain at Dr. Georgina Stanton’s hospice for teens, Brightcliffe (Heather Langenkamp).
There, Ilonka meets the other patients, like Natsuki (Aya Furukawa), Spencer (Chris Sumpter), Kevin (Igby Rigney), Cheri (Adia), Amesh (Sauriyan Sapkota), Sandra (Annarah Cymone), and Anya (Ruth Codd), who all have their own diagnoses and fears. Ilonka is sneaking through the hallways at night when she sees the other patients in the library telling scary stories and calling themselves the Midnight Club. After Ilonka earns the trust of the other teens, it becomes clear that the stories she is telling aren’t all made up. Each story is based on the teens’ own lives and challenges.
All of the actors in The Midnight Club do great work, but Ruth Codd’s performance as Anya is the one that sticks out the most. When we first meet Anya, Codd shows her as closed off and snarky, a teen girl with the mouth of a sailor. She is, of course, more than meets the eye. As the series goes on, we start to learn further about Anya and really get to know her. Codd does a great job of making this happen.
Iman Benson does a great job as Ilonka; she’s ideal in a role that, like the show itself, has more to it than meets the eye. Even when Ilonka is at her worst, Benson gives her so much humanity that it’s hard to not feel sorry for her. Sandra is the most religious of the teens. Annarah Cymone plays her character with care and understanding, and her scenes with Chris Sumpter’s Spencer are some of the most powerful in the series. The Midnight Club is yet another strong and outstanding series from Mike Flanagan and Netflix. In it, the director explores both familiar and new territory, and longtime fans are sure to be happy with the result.
