The Devil’s Hour Season 1 Review
While establishing Lucy’s nighttime existence and lack of sleep as essential components of this abstract thriller, creator Tom Moran’s (The Feed) early references to Lucy’s problematic son Isaac (Benjamin Chivers) evoke The Sixth Sense. Her reality-shaking nightly 3:33 a.m. awakening is accompanied by unsettling visual distortions of future events. Early on, spectators are urged to accept this narrative limbo since The Devil’s Hour rejects the norm.
But the show’s plot is relatively shallow, and it depends too heavily on sleight of hand and a wonderfully frightening score. Capaldi will, no doubt, have more opportunities to make an impression as The Devil’s Hour progresses, but for now viewers will have to do with brief glimpses and a few loaded line readings.
