Hotel del Luna Storyline
It’s safe to say that “Hotel del Luna” (formerly “Guest House of the Moon”) is unlike any other hotel you’ve ever been in. The hotel is a supernatural location, thus it is only in the real form that humans will ever stumble upon it. Its employees and customers are all spirits working through issues from their past lifetimes in preparation for death and the next reincarnation. The staff, in particular, has not left because they haven’t resolved their long-standing grievances. The hotel’s general manager position, however, has been held by a series of human “passersby” due to the fact that the position requires regular interaction with the outside world, such as when bills need to be paid or when the departed need their demands fulfilled by surviving relatives.
Jang Man-wol (Lee Ji-eun) owns this hotel in Seoul’s Myeong-dong neighborhood. Her soul is permanently tied to the motel for the dead because of a terrible transgression she committed over a thousand years ago. Jang Man-wol (Seo Yi-sook) is manipulated into seeing Koo Chan-sung’s father (Oh Ji-ho) and striking a bargain in which his son will work for her 20 years later in exchange for his life.
Koo Chan-sung’s (Yeo Jin-goo) father is so concerned about his son’s safety that he sends him overseas. The young man matures into a compassionate perfectionist with a strong moral compass. Twenty-one years after his father’s death, he returns to South Korea to work as an assistant manager at a multinational hotel organization, where he eventually meets Jang Man-wol and is forced to complete the deal by becoming the manager of Hotel del Luna. Koo Chan-sung is the key that unlocks the hotel’s and its owner’s secrets.
