After the success of its second season on Netflix, fans are eager to know when they can expect to see “Black Summer” back for a third installment. The program’s second season ended on a cliffhanger, leaving viewers wondering how the narrative of a woman who is separated from her kid during the early days of a zombie apocalypse would be handled if the show returned for another excursion.
A spinoff of Syfy’s “Z Nation,” which aired for five seasons between 2014 and 2018, “Black Summer” is the latest zombie drama to capitalize on “The Walking Dead’s” popularity. With continued airings of new episodes, “Black Summer” could eventually catch up to the timeline established by “Z Nation.” However, that won’t occur until the show airs multiple more seasons beyond the current two. That will begin with the upcoming third season, and here’s everything we know so far:
Black Summer Season 3 Renewal Status
While we wait for Netflix’s official renewal announcement, the conclusion of Season 2 suggests that the show will continue. With so many loose ends after season two of ‘Black Summer,’ the showrunners must be sure that Netflix will give them the go-ahead to make season three.
Netflix usually waits at least a month after a show’s premiere to decide whether or not to renew it. Season 3 of ‘Black Summer’ has taken longer to renew than most other series, but it’s important to remember that the renewal announcement for the previous season also took several months. As a result, we still have faith that season 3 will premiere at some time. On June 17, 2021, we got our hands on ‘Black Summer’ season 2, but we haven’t heard anything about a third season yet. Once we hear that the show has been renewed, you can count on an update here.
Black Summer Storyline
We will now provide a quick summary of the plot for the benefit of those who are unfamiliar with the narrative. We can all admit to a morbid interest in the paranormal, and if you count yourself among the converted, you’ve undoubtedly seen at least one program about zombies. Now, this show is like another with a zombie apocalypse setting, but it’s not just about the struggle the last humans have to endure to survive the zombies; it also features other humans who pose a threat to the survivors. The primary objective is to flee, but there is also a mother-daughter scenario in which the girl is separated from the mother at the outbreak’s onset and the mother is now willing to sacrifice everything to reunite with her daughter and take her to a safer area. This film is a masterwork in the subgenre of supernatural suspense.

Black Summer Season 3 Expected Plot
The first season seemed to conclude on a strong note, but the second season left many questions unanswered. The third season of “Black Summer” may be launched from these intriguing questions. Season 2 centered on the group’s efforts to reach the airstrip. They want to board the unidentified aircraft that has been seen dropping supplies in the region in the hopes of escaping to a safer location.
Among the group of survivors who made it to the airstrip, Sun was the only one who was able to board the plane. Which way does the aircraft fly off to? Can Sun find a safe haven away from the virus? There’s no way to know until the next season airs. The aircraft is, however, just a stopgap measure against the zombie outbreak. The pilot reportedly has to make a pit stop for fuel, and heaven alone knows what difficulties may lie in store for them after they touch down.
Rose’s destiny is another unanswered mystery. Due to her broken leg, she had to miss her flight. Anna, her daughter, ran back to Mom rather than boarding the aircraft without her. While Anna will stop at nothing to ensure her survival, Rose is starting to lose steam. However, Rose is warranted in her worries. Since flying is out of the question, where will they go? The ski lodge seemed to be their last, best option. Anna seems to have left her demoralized mother behind as she enters a vehicle, however, it is unclear whether this was her decision or not. The struggle for survival will go on. If everything goes well, ‘Black Summer’ will return for a third season on Netflix shortly.
Black Summer Season 3 Release Date
Season 3 of Black Summer is expected to premiere in 2023. The first batch of episodes premiered on Netflix in April 2019, and the show was renewed seven months later. A renewal or termination announcement may not come until early 2022, since season 2 debuted in June 2021. The consensus among critics and Netflix viewers is that the third season of Black Summer will drop sometime in the spring of 2023.
Black Summer Season 3 Trailer
The show’s trailer has been a long time coming since its release date was originally predicted to be 2022. But as we’ve previously noted, there’s a good possibility the show’s third season will arrive in 2023, so we’ll just have to wait and see. Both Netflix and YouTube have previews for the show’s first and second seasons.
Black Summer Season 3 Episodes
Black Summer’s seventh season had eight total episodes. Season 3 will likewise include eight episodes provided the producers stick to their usual format.
Where can I watch Black Summer Season 3?
If and when a third season of “Black Summer” is produced, it will premiere exclusively on the Netflix streaming service. That’s because it was created by Netflix just for their service, and the streaming giant still owns the rights to it and the first two seasons.
