She keeps track of their travels while Fogg and his French “manservant,” Passepartout, make their way across the world. The three of them go on a world tour with the goal of returning to London by Christmas Eve. Only Bellamy (one of the club’s gentlemen) makes an effort to stop him in various locations across the world.
Despite some shaky storytelling, this is a visually stunning show with excellent location work. David Tennant, who plays Fogg, does an excellent job of channeling the actor’s charm into his role. It may be argued that without him, the program wouldn’t be nearly as entertaining. Ultimately, “Around the World in Eighty Days” is satisfactory. It’s a new take on the classic tale, with enough changes and alterations to the original text to make it seem fresh while still allowing viewers to follow along with Fogg and company on their voyage.
A handful of the chapters are very memorable, such as the fifth episode when the three protagonists are stranded on a desert island, while others, such as Bellamy’s weak threat, seem tacked on and contribute nothing to the story.
