Various hair problems can be easily solved by applying a few drops of oil to the scalp and massaging it thoroughly. The advantages of a homemade oil treatment are that you can prepare an effective solution using simple ingredients available in your kitchen.

In today’s lifestyle, women are experiencing a lot of chemical treatments for their hair. Before applying any chemical products to your hair it would be wise to get rid of current problems using natural therapy.

Hair oil treatment is one such therapy that has been used since ancient times. Hair oils are easy to prepare and are mostly available in the kitchen. In this article, we will discuss a few homemade hair oil treatments.

1. Coconut Hair Oil:

Coconut is known for its nourishing and moisturizing properties. It helps in retaining the natural moisture of the hair and protects it from damage due to the sun or any other environmental hazards.

Take 2 tablespoons of coconut oil and warm it slightly.

Take 2 tablespoons of mustard oil and heat it for a few seconds (heat in such a way that the oil remains cool).

Mix both oils thoroughly. Massage this mixture into your scalp and hair. Use only the tips of your fingers as this area is very sensitive and applying too much pressure can cause damage to your follicles.

Let it stay for a couple of hours and then wash off with a mild shampoo.

2. Olive Oil Treatment for Hair:

The nourishing properties of olive oil help in keeping the hair from damage caused by harsh styling products or environmental pollution. It is also an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory agent, which keeps infections away from the scalp. Peppermint oil helps in stimulating blood flow to the head which can prevent hair loss and hair fall.

Mix olive oil, peppermint oil, and rosemary oil together in a bowl.

Apply this mixture on your hair from root to tip using only the tips of your fingers. This area is very sensitive so trying to apply too much pressure will only cause hair fall.

Let it stay for an hour and then shampoo your hair.

3. Fenugreek Seeds Hair Treatment:

Fenugreek seeds are rich in Vitamin B, folic acid, and fatty acids that help to strengthen the roots of the hair follicles. It also helps in restoring lost color on grey hair.

Take 3 tablespoons of fenugreek seeds and boil them in 2 cups of water till the seeds are soft. Strain the solution and let it cool down completely. Add 1 tablespoon of amla powder ( Indian gooseberry ) to this solution. Use this mixture as a hair pack for your hair after shampooing them thoroughly with lukewarm water. Let it stay on your hair for an hour and then rinse off with cold water.

4. Onion Hair Mask:

Onion juice has a strong astringent property that helps to treat dandruff problems. It also possesses antibacterial properties that help in curing scalp infections, which is a major cause of hair fall and hair damage.

Grate 1 onion and extract the juice from it by pressing the grated pieces against a strainer. Apply this on your scalp and then rinse off after an hour or so with shampoo.

5. Curd Hair Pack:

An age-old remedy for dandruff is curd. It not only makes your hair shiny but also prevents dandruff from appearing on your scalp.

Beat an egg and add 2 tablespoons of curd to it. Make a smooth paste by adding 1 tablespoon of honey to it. Apply this mixture thoroughly on your hair from root to tip and leave it for 30 minutes before you shampoo your hair thoroughly.

6. Castor Oil Treatment:

Castor oil is an excellent conditioner for your hair. It helps in the growth of new hair and also prevents split ends.

Mix castor oil, coconut oil, and olive oil together in equal quantities. Warm it slightly before application, apply this mixture thoroughly on your scalp and the lower part of your hair. Wrap a hot towel around your head and leave it for at least an hour or so before shampooing your hair.

7. Egg Hair Mask:

Eggs are a natural conditioner for the hair that helps in restoring proteins to the roots of the hair follicles, thus preventing breakage and split ends.

Mix 1 teaspoon of any carrier oil ( olive oil, coconut oil, etc. ) with 2 eggs. Apply this on your hair from root to tip and leave it for 20 minutes before you shampoo your hair thoroughly.

8. Camphor Hair Mask:

Camphor also has antiseptic properties that help in treating scalp infections, which is a major cause of hair fall. It also reduces dandruff problems. Take some camphor and crush it. Mix this crushed camphor in a cup of yogurt before applying it to your hair from root to tip. Wash off after an hour with shampoo.

9. Multani Mitti Hair Pack:

Multani mitti has cooling properties that help soothe the scalp and reduce itching, thus preventing dandruff and hair loss. It also absorbs excess oil from the scalp and hair, which promotes hair growth.

Mix 1 tablespoon each of Multani mitti ( fenugreek powder ) and besan ( chickpea flour ). Add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and a pinch of black pepper to this mixture. Apply this pack thoroughly on your scalp and leave it for 20-30 minutes before you wash off with lukewarm water.

10. Egg Yolk Hair Mask:

Egg yolks are rich in proteins that help deeply condition your hair, thus preventing breakage and split ends. It also reduces frizziness by adding a healthy shine to your hair.

Mix 1 tablespoon each of olive oil and mayonnaise. Add 2 egg yolks to this mixture before mixing thoroughly. Apply this on your hair from root to tip and leave it for 20-30 minutes, before shampooing it off with lukewarm water.

11. Lemons Hair Mask:

Lemon has bleaching properties that help lighten your hair. It also helps in removing dandruff and other scalp infections, which are the major cause of hair fall. Mix 1 tablespoon each of lemon juice, yogurt, and honey thoroughly to form a paste. Apply this pack on your scalp for 20 minutes before you wash off with cold water.

12. Banana Hair Mask:

Banana is rich in potassium, magnesium, and vitamins that help condition your hair.

Mash 1 banana thoroughly to form a smooth paste. Add 2 tablespoons of honey to this mixture before applying it to your hair from root to tip. Leave it for 20 minutes before you wash it off with lukewarm water.

13. Basil Hair Mask:

Crush 12-15 basil leaves to form a smooth paste. Add 1 tablespoon of honey and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice to this mixture before applying it thoroughly on your hair from root to tip. Leave it for 20-30 minutes before washing your hair with cold water.

14. Amla Hair Mask:

Amla is rich in vitamin C that helps deeply condition the hair shafts, thus promoting hair growth. It also adds a healthy shine to your hair.

Mix 1 tablespoon of amla powder with 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and 3 tablespoons of water to form a smooth paste. Apply this on the scalp and leave it for 30-40 minutes before you shampoo it off.

15. Indian Lilac Hair Mask:

Extract a few drops of Indian lilac oil. Mix 1 tablespoon of coconut milk with 2 tablespoons each of honey and lemon juice before mixing thoroughly with the Indian lilac oil. Apply this thoroughly on your scalp and hair before you shampoo it off after 30 minutes.

16. Indian Gooseberry Hair Mask:

17. Fenugreek Leaves Hair Mask:

20. Mixed Seeds Hair Mask:

Soak a handful of mixed seeds in water overnight. Grind these soaked seeds to form a smooth paste. Apply this on your scalp before you shampoo it off with lukewarm water after 30 minutes.
