The first episode of the murder mystery series Three Pines debuted on Amazon Prime Video. The format is quite similar to that of a show like “Midsomer Murders.” Gamache visits the picturesque Canadian town of Three Pines, only to uncover a string of murders. He and his friends, Jean-Guy and Isabelle, set out to investigate a series of murders and identify possible culprits.

Three Pines Season 2 Renewal Status
Amazon decided to discontinue the run of its Québécois detective show “Three Pines” after a single season, but in the current streaming market, renewed interest in a show can bring it back from the dead.
Amazon canceled “Three Pines” in March 2023, just a few months after the first season’s end, according to Variety’s reporting. Showrunner Emilia di Girolamo wrote on Instagram, “I was not involved in the conversations and negotiations around renewal, but I have been told Left Bank, Sony, and Prime Video all wanted to bring the show back but were unable to reach a mutually beneficial agreement,” according to the report.
Authorities at one point desired, at the very least, a second season of “Three Pines.” However, given that they were unable to successfully negotiate the show’s comeback, it seems unlikely that it will air again any time soon.
Three Pines Storyline
Chief Inspector Gamache is tasked with solving a series of murders in the strange yet enticing village of Three Pines, and he is both courteous and observant in his approach. The agitated Sergeant Jean-Guy Beauvoir, the savvy Indigenous working woman Sergeant Isabelle Lacoste, and the inexperienced Agent Yvette Nichol make up his reliable squad. At first, the locals are wary of the group.
In spite of the cold welcome, Gamache finds himself captivated to the town and its eccentric residents, including the Bistro’s owners Gabri and Olivier, artists Peter and Clara, a former psychiatrist turned bookstore owner Myrna, gallery owner Bea, and irritable poet Ruth. Gamache’s emotional state is deteriorating as he digs more into the secrets of the people who have taken refuge in Three Pines.
The show’s fabric is also intertwined with a mysterious dark serial plot that reveals police corruption and a reluctance to investigate missing Indigenous women.

Three Pines Season 1 Review
Similarly, the series gets the most of its beautiful backdrop in the community of Three Pines. Although it has some parallels to the British series Midsomer Murders, the novels by Louise Penny serve as the series’ true inspiration and provide the series’ foundation.
Simply put, Three Pines is a straightforward crime drama. The show benefits from the fact that it is neither very complex nor challenging (apart from, of course, figuring out whodunits). From the first to the last episode, Gamache and his jaded team (including Isabelle and Jean-Guy) work together to investigate and solve each case, scouring evidence and interviewing witnesses to come closer to the truth.
All individual instances have been closed, however, and some of them may have been closed too quickly. The first scenario is especially problematic in this regard because the final resolution seems hastily devised. It was puzzling enough that it could have been a distraction from solving the mystery. Too bad it wasn’t true.
Three Pines, despite its flaws, has a solid screenplay and high production qualities. The straightforward yet engaging character arcs make for a satisfying binge. It’s not groundbreaking or groundbreaking for the genre, but it’s entertaining nonetheless.
