Every human being experiences the range of emotions associated with living in a fantastical world, and every fan has wished at some point in their lives for that world to be real. Films based on fantasy novels like “Game of Thrones,” “Harry Potter,” “The Lord of the Rings,” and “Percy Jackson” have been extremely successful. The realm of The Shannara Chronicles was one such fantastical place that we all desired to exist in real life. Set out on a dangerous but fascinating mission to rescue the magical tree and vanquish the demons protecting it.
The Shannara Chronicles is undeniably an excellent show, as evidenced by the 7.1 out of 10 rating it currently holds on IMDb. In fact, the show received numerous award nominations, including one for best fantasy series at the Saturn Awards. The show was developed by Alfred G. Miles Millar and is based on Terry Brooks’ The Sword of Shannara Trilogy. There was a second season after the first one premiered on January 5, 2016. If you’re a fan like us, you’ve been wondering when Season 3 will air. Let’s take a closer look at season 3 of The Shannara Chronicles.
The Shannara Chronicles Season 3 Renewal Status
The Shannara Chronicles will not return for a third season because the show was canceled in 2017 and efforts to move it to another network were unsuccessful. Unfortunately, only one of the trilogy’s novels was adapted in the first two seasons. This meant that the other two books were completely ignored.
Why was The Shannara Chronicles Season 3 canceled?
The Shannara Chronicles may have lost viewers when it was transferred to Spike, but the show may have been doomed by other, more powerful factors. Season 2 of the show ran from October to November of 2017 after it was revealed in May 2017 that it would be moving from Spike TV to Spike. While once known as Spike, the network’s parent firm Viacom announced in February 2017 that the name would be changed to Paramount Network. On January 18, 2018, two days after it was revealed that The Shannara Chronicles would be canceled, the show’s title was changed. The network’s shift in focus from teen to adult programming during the rebranding from Spike to Paramount Network undoubtedly led to the decision to cancel The Shannara Chronicles rather than wait for its viewership to recover before moving on.

The Shannara Chronicles Season 3 Plot
The series takes place in the fictional land of Shannara. The Ellcrys tree is truly one of a kind. The magical tree is guarded by the Ellonans. If those held captive by it were ever freed, they would take over the globe. Demons reside in the realms of the forbidden. The demons are making a gradual return to Earth as the Ellcrys tree begins to shed its leaves. A team has been formed to combat these monstrous adversaries. They call themselves “The Chosen.”
One of the main characters is named Wil Ohmsford. He is from the Shannara family and is a mix of elves and humans. Amberle, a princess, is also on the hunt for the tree’s protector. She gives her life so that the monster doesn’t have to be released, saving everyone else in the process.
Eretria first comes out as unreliable, but she ends up becoming a member of the group as well. There is a love triangle involving these three people. Multiple species on Earth have gone to war after Amberle’s demise. Another terrifying villain with designs on wreaking devastation in the Four Lands is the Warlock Lord. Wil is willing to sacrifice himself for the benefit of others. There would be more of both in The Shannara Chronicles’ third season. The plot may also go into the differences between the animal kingdom and the magical realm.
Where to watch The Shannara Chronicles?
There is a lot of potential in The Shannara Chronicles. It’s terrible that, despite its popularity, it’s not available on the major streaming services, where it would receive the exposure it deserves. Thankfully, you can watch The Shannara Chronicles on Netflix without worrying about this.
