Given how well-received Netflix’s limited series The Queen’s Gambit was when it came out last year, it’s not surprising that it’s won a number of awards, with star Anya Taylor-Joy recently adding a Best Actress Critics Choice award to her Golden Globe. Fans were excited to hear that, after getting the award, Taylor-Joy hinted that a season 2 might still happen at some point, even though it had seemed like that was unlikely before.

Does The Queen’s Gambit Need Another Season?
In The Queen’s Gambit, Beth wins in the end. She gets to the top of the chess world and finally beats Vasily Borgov, the Soviet world champion, who had been her biggest rival (Marcin Dorociski). The Queen’s Gambit was written so well that fans wondered if it was based on real events, even though it was made up and based on a single book. The show mostly stays true to the book, so it’s hard to imagine what season two would be like. Also, Anya Taylor-Joy has become a pretty big star and might not want to do a whole series.
Since there is nothing to go on, the writers could do whatever they wanted with Beth’s story. She could be a chess champion on the road, a chess teacher, or even a mom. They could take the story in any direction they wanted, but the real question is whether they should. In The Queen’s Gambit, a wonderful series came to a beautiful, perfect end. To keep going with the story could perhaps feel like jumping the shark, which is a bad thing. It would be sad if a series that ended perfectly ruined itself by coming back just to please fans. If The Queen’s Gambit came back, the story needs to fit Beth’s journey and make sense. But because of how the show ended, it seems hard to do that.
The Queen’s Gambit Season 2 Release Date
Netflix hasn’t said when Season 2 of The Queen’s Gambit will be out. Queen’s Gambit probably won’t have a second season, but there is still hope. Since the book has no plot, it’s hard for the producers to decide if they should make a second season or not. Even though the casting director is ready to get back to work on the sets, the production team is still thinking about it. The series was a big hit, so The Queen’s Gambit has a good chance of coming back since everyone liked it.
