Almost no one enjoys reading novels, but everyone loves viewing adaptations of those novels in the form of miniseries. The Last Thing He Told Me, a best-seller from The Times in 2021, is now the basis for a miniseries set to air in 2023. The American production company AppleTV+ has created an exciting miniseries. All of the events and characters in the show stem from Laura Dave’s riveting novel.
The Last Thing He Told Me Season 2 Renewal Status
The Last Thing He Told Me has not been picked up for a second season on AppleTV+ as of this writing. Given the nature of the show, though, that may alter if it proves successful. Like other streaming services, AppleTV+ considers a variety of factors, such as the show’s initial viewership and subsequent viewership decline, before deciding whether or not to renew it. Some shows (like Shantaram, Shrinking, etc.) have short turnarounds for cancellations and renewals. Sometimes AppleTV+ makes a decision about a show’s future immediately, while other times it can take months.
The response to The Last Thing He Told Me has been very positive. The Last Thing He Told Me has recently been mentioned in a press release from Apple TV, which states that it was one of the top three most-streamed shows in the month of May.
As a result of these factors, we believe that AppleTV+ is not going to renew The Last Thing He Told Me for a second season, as the show has likely run out of material from the books upon which it is based. More crucially, AppleTV+ advertised it as a limited series because it covers much of Dave’s novel in the first season. Most TV shows aren’t renewed for new seasons during these times.
The Last Thing He Told Me Season 2 Release Date
Since there have been no follow-up novels to the one on which the show is based, written by Laura Dave, it seems unlikely that the show will be renewed for a second season. In fact, Laura Dave admitted as much in one of the interviews, saying that she lacked the inspiration to write or direct more of the novel or series. Therefore, readers of the series shouldn’t hold their breath for a continuation.
There has been no official word from the show’s creators, so we can’t confirm anything. Nothing can be done until the creators of The Last Thing He Told Me to make an official announcement.
The Last Thing He Told Me Storyline
As Hannah Hall moves to Sausalito with her new husband, Owen, she does her utmost to seduce his stepdaughter, Bailey. Their perfect existence is shattered when Owen vanishes without a trace while a financial swindle develops at The Shop, the technology company he co-founded. Hannah and Bailey’s lives are in jeopardy because of a much broader concern than the possibility that he knew of the firm’s wrongdoing ahead of time.
Hannah proposes they travel to Austin, Owen’s hometown, in search of answers as they struggle to come together there. After learning that Owen isn’t who he seems to be, Bailey and Hannah find themselves being pursued by the family of a former crime lord.

The Last Thing He Told Me Season 2 Expected Plot
Due to the five-year time shift, the season 1 finale of The Last Thing He Told Me does leave the door open for a second season. When Owen, who has grown a beard and now appears slightly different, brushes up against Hannah in public, Hannah’s expression brightens. It’s a fleeting encounter, and it’s unclear if and when the two will meet again in private. Owen went into hiding to protect his loved ones, but a second season might explore the fallout from this decision.
In addition, in the future, Bailey and Hannah have a much closer relationship, to the point where Bailey refers to Hannah as “mom.” If a second season of The Last Thing He Told Me is produced, the program can choose whether to revisit the five-year gap or continue with the current timeline. The ending provides some closure but not a full one, especially in light of Owen’s potentially deadly outside connections and the two ladies at the story’s center.

The Last Thing He Told Me Season 1 Review
The Last Thing He Told Me, available on Apple TV+, bills itself as a riveting domestic thriller that follows Hannah Hall and her stepdaughter Bailey after Hannah’s husband and Bailey’s father, Owen Michaels, goes missing. The Last Thing He Told Me fails miserably in its attempt to make use of this effective method of narrative. Once the story’s conclusion is shown to be so lackluster, it becomes clear that all the buildup was in vain.
It’s true that Dave’s book summed up the feelings of loss and betrayal that his protagonists experienced. The characters of Hannah and Bailey serve as effective conduits for these emotions on the show. The psychological toll of such a betrayal is powerfully brought to light throughout the season, with Hannah’s anguish, perplexity, and resiliency all on full display as she mourns her loss and searches for answers.
It makes us reflect on the risks we take when we love and trust someone and on how little we know them. The show fails to address the themes of social critique included in Dave’s work. She skillfully wove in cultural, technological, and criminal components to deepen the story and investigate their effects on the protagonists. It’s disappointing that the show doesn’t address that at all. Hannah and Bailey appear to be the only attention of the show’s producers, to the exclusion of anything else.
