It’s safe to say that ‘The Durrells,’ also known as ‘The Durrells in Corfu,’ is intended to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Since it first aired in the United States, the British comedy-drama has become a huge hit with viewers on the other side of the Atlantic. The series debuted on ITV on April 3, 2016, and it continues to air to this day. Masterpiece on PBS airs in the United States.
Simon Nye penned the script for “The Durrells in Corfu,” while Steve Barron and Roger Goldby helmed the film. ‘The Corfu Trilogy,’ a collection of Gerald Durrell’s autobiographical writings, served as inspiration for the show’s premise. It covers the years 1935-1939 and focuses on the family’s exploits on the Greek island of Corfu. The inclusion of exotic creatures in each season, however, is what gives the show its flair and elevates it above the rest. The critics have said that the play is “sun-drenched and liberating” and that it “catches its source material’s high good humor without laboring it and weaves an authentic sense of the innocent exoticism of the original.”
The Durrells Season 5 Release Date
The premiere date for the new season of the show was April 7, 2019. It aired for the first time on ITV, a network designed exclusively for viewers in the United Kingdom. On September 27, 2019, it was scheduled for its premiere on PBS in the United States. Since the BBC has confirmed that this is the final season, the creators have ensured a fitting finale. Therefore, the series ends at a moment when it is very well-liked by its audience.
Keeley Hawes, who played a pivotal role on the show and also served as an executive producer, expressed her excitement about returning to Corfu for the series finale. She headed on to express her gratitude that the viewers shared the cast and crew’s enthusiasm for the show. So, in her view, the show’s brilliant creator, Simon Nye, said goodbye to the whole gang. Therefore, it seems likely that the next fifth season of Durrells in Corfu will not air.

The Durrells Season 5 Plot
The story begins in 1935 when protagonist Louisa Durrell and her family of four announce that they would be moving from Bournemouth to the Greek island of Corfu. Since the death of her husband a few years ago, their family’s finances have been difficult. A conflict arises as the family struggles to adapt to island life and a shortage of resources. Despite lacking electricity and contemporary sanitary infrastructure, Corfu shows to be an affordable and earthly paradise.
Watching “The Durrells in Corfu” as a family on Sundays is a great tradition. The show notably features the naturally gorgeous scenery, wildlife, and all the elderly persons with golden hearts. These quirks enhance the show’s overall visual appeal. The show was able to keep this vibe going as it went on. It reassures viewers that they need not worry about fitting in with the family dynamic.
The Durrells are shown on the show as having a deep-seated fear of unresolved issues. Unlike in some families, when members hide their emotions, we outsiders can see exactly what everyone in the family is thinking at any given moment. The show’s tone required that the challenges they faced be relatively easy. In spite of any anxiety the audience may have experienced, they are confident in their ability to triumph.
The home and relationships become increasingly intricate as the series progresses. While it’s true that the show ultimately went in a different direction, one example is how the family moved to Corfu. Meanwhile, the Durrells’ eldest son, Lawrence, had moved to Corfu the year before, in 1935.
