Ilya Tilkin and Egor Baranov created the Russian thriller-drama series Sparta for television. On July 9, 2018, the series debuted on Netflix. Each of the eight episodes of Season 1 of Sparta runs about 53 minutes. The average rating for the series on IMDB is 6.7%. Maybe they were just feeling experimental and decided to release it on Netflix. Two Golden Eagles have been awarded to the show so far. Alexander Petrov won the award for Best Television Actor, while directors Egor Baranov and Aleksandr Tsekalo took home the trophy for Best TV Film or Series.
Although few people have watched the show, Sparta has an original premise that deserves more attention. We are confident that the general public will like the series as much as they do other forms of international media once they become familiar with it. In Sparta, a group of pupils witnesses their teacher’s suicide by jumping out a window, setting off a chain of bad events that become entangled in an online game. Reviews on IMDB agree that the show is entertaining and memorable. The series may not be widely seen, but it has gained a devoted following and has received largely excellent reviews.
Sparta Season 2 Renewal Status
Season one of the Russian thriller series began on Netflix on July 9, 2018, and concluded on July 20, 2018. Now that we’ve brought up the possibility of a second season of Sparta, here’s what we know: neither Netflix nor the showrunners have confirmed the show’s renewal for a second season.
Unfortunately, the first season of the show was lost in Netflix’s endless library of shows. It also did not fare well in streaming. There isn’t a lot of Russian programming on Netflix, and the first season was a flop. Sparta Season 2 is highly unlikely to be renewed for a second season. Since the network has not officially canceled the show, it is also worth noting that we are not dismissing the potential of a return.
Sparta Season 2 Release Date
On July 9, 2019, the first season of the show debuted. Years have passed with no word on whether or not the series will be continued. Given the series’ low ratings and the fact that it is produced in Russia, we can safely infer that there will be no Season 2. Due to Netflix’s limited Russian content library, cancellation of the show’s second season is likely if it does not perform well in its first. There is an infinity of reasons why Sparta shouldn’t return for a second season.
Despite positive critical reception and engaging storytelling, the series’ low ratings make it unlikely that it will be revived for a second season. Fans shouldn’t get their expectations up until the show is officially renewed for a second season, and even then, those hopes aren’t very high.
Sparta Season 2 Cast

Lyudmila Mikhaylovna Tsareva is portrayed by Yuliya Marchenko. The inaugural season also included Valeriya Shkirando and Aleksandr Bolshakov.
Sparta Season 2 Plot
The plot of Sparta centers on a St. Petersburg school teacher who commits suicide in front of his students by jumping from a classroom window. Interviewed children of the deceased homeroom instructor provide information on the virtual reality game Sparta to detective Igor Kryukov. Throughout the investigation, the investigator’s vulnerability is highlighted through flashbacks that reveal his wife recently committed suicide using the same manner and that he is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of her loss.
During his inquiry, he learns that both the director and his daughter passed away in the same facility. Right off the bat, he wonders if the killings have anything to do with Sparta, the popular video game among young people. The series manages to keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. It’s constructed with a series of interconnected flashbacks that lay out the story logically and smoothly until the last chapter.
