The popular action/drama manga “Noragami” was written by a female writing team who went by the pen name Adachitoka. One of Japan’s most popular series, “Noragami” was first released in 2011 by manga publisher Kodonsha (via Anime News Network). Studio BONES (“Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood,” “My Hero Academia”) released the first season of their anime adaptation in 2014, and the second season, titled “Aragoto,” followed the following year.
Both seasons of “Noragami” were well-received by critics, and the show gained a dedicated following while it was airing. Fans of “Noragami: Aragoto” are still wanting more content six years after the series conclusion. The program has been on hiatus for quite some time without any word on when it could return or what the hell is going to happen in the meantime. However, the program still has a lot of material to draw from. With that in consideration, consider the following information:
Noragami Season 3 Renewal Status
The show has not been officially renewed as of this writing, but we will maintain you updated as more information becomes available. Considering that the second season premiered on October 9, 2015, and that viewers have been eagerly awaiting the next episode for quite some time, we can safely infer that the third season is now in production. There was no clear conclusion to Season 2, so fans assumed the third season would introduce a brand new storyline full of exciting new adventures. Fans are also holding out hope for news of season 3 given that Noragami Volume 25 was released on June 16th, 2022.
Noragami Season 3 Release Date
Season 2 of Noragami Aragoto ran from October 2, 2015, to December 25, 2015, and consisted of 13 episodes. Opening with “Kyran Hey Kids!” by The Oral Cigarettes and finishing with “Goodbye to All That” by Nirvana.
It is unclear how far away a release date for Noragami Season 3 is without any kind of announcement or teaser, presuming BONES even plans to make it. The Noragami manga, we know, moves forward at a much faster clip than the anime, so BONES will have enough material to draw from if they chose to continue the series. Until then, fans will have to subsist on such manga as that is the only way they will get access to the remaining elements of the plot any time soon.
Noragami Storyline
Let’s review the first two seasons’ worth of episodes before jumping into the third. Hiyori Iki is a high school student whose life is changed forever after she saves a total stranger from an accident. When her spirit is torn from her body in the accident, she becomes Ayakashi and is able to perceive two realities at once. She utilizes this special talent to routinely visit both the afterlife (the Far Shore), where human souls and devils hang out, and the human world (the Near Shore), where animals, ordinary people, and other species live.
Hiyori Iki meets the nameless god Yato on her travels and the two become fast friends. He charges five yen to grant human wishes because he cannot afford his own temple. He saves up cash so he can construct his own temple for worshippers to use. Hiyori’s hope is that he repairs her physical form, as she dislikes experiencing temporary dissociation from her physical form. She just wants to get back to being a regular person. But Yato’s thoughts were elsewhere. Hiyori meets Yato’s Regalia, Yukine. They quickly bond as friends and embark on numerous adventures together.
Noragami Season 3 Cast
In the event that “Noragami” is renewed for a third season, viewers know what to expect from the show’s voice actors. According to Myanimelist, Hiroshi Kamiya will continue playing Yato in the third season unless a big event prevents him from doing so. Actors Maaya Uchida and Yuki Kaji will also keep playing Yato’s friends Hiyori and Yukine.
Whether or if “Noragami” Season 3 ever happens, the primary trio voiced by actors like Jason Liebrecht, Bryn Appril, and Micha Solusod in the English dub will probably remain unchanged. The release date of the English version, in connection to the original, is currently uncertain. English dubs often lag behind the original versions by a few weeks, so it’s possible that English-speaking viewers will have to wait even longer for season 3 than everyone else.
Noragami Season 3 Plotline
As was mentioned before, BONES has a wealth of unique material from which to draw for Noragami Season 3. The manga canon currently stands at 23, but the show has only covered about ten of them. This, of course, means that followers will learn more about Yato’s sad past as the God of Calamity and the location of the deity’s hidden realm. Hiyori and the others need to figure out how to soothe her disturbed spirit. Hiyori’s illness took a back seat while the team dealt with current problems involving themselves along with other gods from Yato’s past.
One could argue, though, that Noragami’s story wouldn’t be complete without resolving one of the key challenges that set it in motion. With this in mind, the anime’s strengths in character growth and interaction have a lot more opportunities to flourish. Fans will be hoping for some major conflict to arise once “Noragami” gets back on its feet, but so far, nothing much has happened.
Where can I watch Season 3 of Noragami?
