- Matthew Broderick as Michael Francis Xavier Burr, Glendale High’s principal. It’s unknown how accurate Josh’s flashbacks are, but Burr appears to be “odd” as he goes into nonsensical ramblings before getting to the point.
What is Daybreak about?
The plot follows 17-year-old high school misfit Josh as he travels to a post-apocalyptic version of Glendale, California, in quest of his lost lover Sam. Josh fights for his life in the face of many gangs, zombie-like monsters called Ghoulies, and the rest of the terrible world. Josh is accompanied on his journey across the wasteland by Angelica, a 12-year-old pyromaniac, and Wesley, a former high school bully turned peaceful samurai.
The first season focuses mostly on Josh’s quest to find Sam, the gradual formation of his crew, and the ongoing rivalry between the various survivor gangs in their struggle for power in the new world.
Daybreak Season 2 Story
The first season of Daybreak concludes with the teens successfully firing a nuclear weapon into the mesosphere. In a lighter moment, Principal Burr, alias Triumph, who fancies himself the “Armageddon Jesus,” is vanquished. Sam picks up a lot of wisdom from her adventures, which Josh, starry-eyed and naive that survival would inevitably lead to romance, fails to see. However, in the season one cliffhanger of Daybreak, Sam rejects Josh and assumes power, much like a post-apocalyptic Daenerys Targaryen.
In the first season of Daybreak, Josh was prepared for love, but it turns out that Sam is prepared to take charge. For what’s to come in Daybreak season 2, “all is fair in love and war” surely rings true. The shifting balance of power among the show’s many groups is the new focal point. Josh will make an effort to win over Sam, but in order to get even a modicum of power, he will have to forge dubious relationships. In the second season of Daybreak, a new antagonist will arise as a means to bring Sam and Josh together.
