Finnish writer Miikko Oikkonen is responsible for the crime drama Bordertown. A detective moves to a small town with the expectation of facing less crime, but his plans are derailed when his new community is rocked by the atrocities of a serial murderer. The show takes on multiple cases throughout each season and connects them into an overarching plot.
The show was so popular in Finland that Netflix decided to buy the rights to distribute it abroad. The show’s popularity has skyrocketed thanks to the greater viewership on the streaming service. Because of its immense popularity, viewers have been anticipating if it will be renewed for a subsequent season. The 4th season of ‘Bordertown’ is here, and here’s what you need to know about it.
Bordertown Season 4 Renewal Status
We regret to inform you that Bordertown, the Finnish noir series, will not be continuing. In May, Netflix removed all three seasons of the hit crime drama. The Netflix May schedule was just released, thus we now know these details. Netflix no longer has the worldwide streaming rights to Bordertown as of May 10, 2023. Bordertown is advertised as a “Netflix Original,” yet Netflix does not hold all rights to the show. Netflix sometimes acquires limited-time licenses for international television series.
As a result, they will lose access to the streaming service after their contract ends. It’s possible that Netflix will try to renegotiate the terms of their agreement to air this noir series at some point.
But that is not the situation right now. Since we lost the show, we don’t know if or when it will return to another streaming service. Since Bordertown originates from Finland, it’s hard to say if any other American or foreign network will pick it up. We realize that Bordertown’s removal from Netflix may come as a disappointment to some of its fans.
Bordertown Season 4 Release Date
The first season premiered on October 16, 2016, and it quickly became the most-watched Finnish show of all time. Eleven episodes of the show aired on Yle TV1. Approximately one million people tune in each week to see the show and there is a lot of audience participation. In 2017, it won the Golden Venla Award for Best Drama Series, as well as awards for Best Actor and Best Actress. The average rating for the series on IMDb was 7.6. After the premiere of Season 1 in 2018, Part 2 of Bordertown, consisting of 10 episodes, premiered on October 7. Season 3 debuted on December 1st, 2016, two years ago.
The first-part prospective series did a terrific job, as expected. If the producers take into account the series’ popularity, Bordertown will undoubtedly return with the Season 4 release date, as the continual work on characters and plot makes viewers wish to watch this show further and wait for the next episode.
Bordertown Storyline
The crime drama and Nordic noir subgenres both appear in the show Bordertown. One of the FBI’s top detectives, Kari Sorjonen, is the protagonist of this novel. His wife’s brain cancer is in its final stages, so he moves the family to a small village in South Karelia, Finland, so that he may spend more time with them. However, life in the new town proves to be more difficult than he had anticipated.

Bordertown Season 4 Plot
Season 3 of ‘Bordertown’ features Sorjonen attempting to solve some of his toughest cases to date. When he compares the recent crimes to others he has solved in the past, he notices a trend. The murderer has been watching them and dares the detective to apprehend him. The reappearance of Lasse Maasalo and the town’s outbreak crisis are addressed in the final two episodes of the season.
Season 4 of ‘Bordertown’ will show how the killer and the epidemic have affected Sorjonen’s family and the town. It will also provide the detective with some fresh, creative crimes to solve, which will be a good test of his skills. Things have gotten more intimate for him over the previous few seasons. We’ll find out in the upcoming season how long he’s been letting his profession get in the way of his personal life.

Ratings and critical reception for Bordertown have been excellent. Bordertown has received overwhelmingly excellent feedback from viewers, earning a score of 7.5/10 on IMDb and a score of 4/5 from the Times of India. Bordertown receives mediocre reviews when looking at the film as a whole.
Is Bordertown worth watching?
All three of Bordertown’s seasons are worth your time. Bordertown offers a compelling plot and a cast of interesting people, so if you’re on the fence about giving it a try, you should definitely give it a shot.
