Season two of Made in Abyss, titled The Golden City of the Scorching Sun, premiered exactly five years after season one. Riko’s terrifying descent into the Abyss’s final layer kept viewers on the edge of their seats in 2022, making it a top contender for best anime. But, as with the other adaptations of the series we’ve seen thus far, it ended with many questions still unanswered.
We are definitely avoiding the question that everyone wants answered: will there be a Made in Abyss: Season 3? Unfortunately, there has been no confirmation of an anime’s third season, and for a few different reasons, it seems doubtful that the franchise will be back in the next months.
Made In Abyss Season 3 Renewal Status
The third season of Made In Abyss has been confirmed. The news was revealed on January 15 at a special ceremony in Japan. It has been revealed that development is underway on Made in Abyss Season 2, which will be titled Golden City of Scorching Sun.
Made In Abyss Season 3 Release Date
The fate of Made in Abyss’s third season is currently unknown, as no renewal announcement has been made. The imminent scarcity of potential content poses a significant challenge to the production of a sequel.
The manga has a little over 61 chapters as of December 2022, but the most surprising thing about them is that they were released over the course of more than a decade. With the second season of Made in Abyss concluding around Chapter 60 or thereabouts, and new chapters appearing in the manga every few months, it’s possible that it’s going to take another five years or more before the third season airs.
Made In Abyss Storyline
Riko, a little orphan girl from the surface world, and Reg, a child made entirely of artificial intelligence, are the protagonists of Made in Abyss. Riko thinks that Reg’s odd skills will help her fulfill her lifelong ambition of exploring the depths of the Abyss, so the two of them embark on a journey from which they will never return. However, the Abyss is a harsh place that does not spare the young.
The people Riko and Reg meet along the trip seem to prove the adage that those who have succeeded in making it to the deeper levels of the Abyss lose their humanity to the Abyss’ “curse.” Season 2 finds Riko, Reg, and a bunny girl named Nanachi (whom they met on their travels) in the titular Golden City, a place where the curse of the Abyss cannot penetrate. Scenes from the present with Riko, Reg, and Nanachi are intercut with flashbacks to an old exhibit that has ties to the city’s history.

Made In Abyss Season 3 Plot
The events of chapter 60 of the manga were not depicted in Made in Abyss: Season 2, which ended after Faputa had destroyed the Hollow Hamlet and agreed to join Riko and Reg’s party. While we did make some new acquaintances and learn quite a bit about the Abyss, we missed out on the ultimate goal of our journey: meeting Lyza.
The manga is only a few chapters ahead at this point, so nothing of note has happened since then. We don’t know where the story is going from here, but until fresh chapters are made by author Akihito Tsukushi, one thing is certain: Lyza will always play a significant role in the action.

Made In Abyss Season 2 Rating
If you’re wondering about the show’s quality but have never watched it, I can say with confidence that it’s actually rather good. The show has a decent IMDb rating of 8.3/10 and a high MyAnimeList rating of 8.67/5. This program has earned an automatic pass in my book. Look at the opinions others have said about it if you’re still on the fence about going.
Made In Abyss Season 3 Production Studio
The visually spectacular adaptations of the manga by Studio Kinema Citrus have thus far included two seasons and three films. That’s why we’re confident that Akihito wouldn’t want anyone but Kinema Citrus to animate Made in Abyss: Season 3.
The studio’s success can be attributed to its veteran personnel, many of whom have worked for Production I.G. (Psyo-Pass) and Bones (Mob Psycho 100) in the past. Even though Made in Abyss is one of their most well-known adaptations, the company is also responsible for other animation masterpieces like The Rising of the Shield and Star Wars: Visions.
Is Made in Abyss worth watching?
Similar to the popular manga and anime of the same name, the Made in Abyss anime series draws inspiration from the source material. There is a wide variety of anime series available. There are some excellent ones and others merely average ones. Is it worthwhile to check out the Made in Abyss anime series? The choice is yours, of course.
