Netflix airs the American action television series “Marvel’s The Punisher.” On November 17, 2017, it made its debut as part of Netflix’s Marvel programming, which has gained notoriety for giving the superhero genre a more mature, realistic, and empathetic spin while receiving harsh criticism for some of its previous episodes. ‘The Punisher’ fortunately was not among them. It deftly transcends the usual superhero tropes to become a more traditional criminal story and conspiracy thriller.
Marvel’s The Punisher Season 3
The Punisher, a character developed by Steve Lightfoot, made his debut in the second season of “Daredevil” and was so well-appreciated that he was given his own series. Matt Murdock’s Daredevil is a great counterpoint to Frank Castle’s The Punisher, who fights crime with his own brand of vigilante justice while Matt Murdock does his best to remain inside the law while combating crime. Like its titular vigilante, this Netflix original is not afraid to display severe brutality.
Fans rushed to the show in droves, and the show has been praised by reviewers for its empathetic depiction of Frank Castle, a character who, on paper, should be quite unlikeable. As expected, a fresh renewal was quickly approved. But will there be a season two? When will Punisher return for a third season? What is it?
Marvel’s The Punisher Season 3 Renewal Status
Despite positive reviews, season 2 of The Punisher was seen by a smaller audience than season 3 of Daredevil. Netflix has decided to end all of its Marvel TV programs, including The Punisher. Despite the lack of an official explanation, it’s not hard to see why Netflix would rather not continue working with Marvel: the streaming service is now a worldwide original programming powerhouse, but it was a relative unknown when it promised to develop numerous Marvel episodes.
The Punisher’s high production costs meant that the series was eventually canceled. In any case, Netflix’s Marvel series has been bleeding viewers for quite some time. After Netflix’s exclusive pact expires in two years, there is a slim possibility that The Punisher might be renewed on Hulu (or elsewhere) for a third season.

Marvel’s The Punisher Plot
The Punisher may have been canceled, but there’s still enough of material for a third season on another network. Producer/head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb told EW, “We have a whole story in mind [for season 3] that would be awesome… the guns are locked and loaded, but Netflix has the finger on the trigger.”
Lightfoot is alluding to the last scene of season 2, which features Frank Castle as the Punisher while yelling and holding two machine guns. It’s quite a change from the beginning of the season when Frank was traveling under an assumed name and attempting to maintain a low profile. This clearly sets up a complete season with Frank as a bona fide vigilante, determined to clean up the streets of New York City (by making them flow crimson with criminal blood) rather than merely settle old scores.
The storyline of Frank attempting to safeguard a new daughter figure came to a satisfactory conclusion, and Amy was sent on a bus to Florida at the end of season 3, so she is not expected to return. Dinah Madani, on the other hand, has taken a position with the CIA (she even attempts to recruit Frank as an assassin), and it would be fascinating to learn more about this new phase of her life.
Marvel’s The Punisher Season 3 Release Date
Season 2 of ‘The Punisher’ debuted on Netflix on January 18, 2019, and it consists of 13 episodes. The reviews for Season 2 were, however, mixed at best. Fans should be aware that there will not be a third season of the program. Netflix confirmed the news to Deadline in a statement: “Marvel’s The Punisher will not return for a third season on Netflix. Showrunner Steve Lightfoot, together with a fantastic team and an excellent cast led by Jon Bernthal, gave viewers an award-winning and captivating series, and Netflix is thrilled to continue showcasing their work for years to come.
Despite the fact that Netflix has officially canceled ‘Marvel’s The Punisher Season 3, Disney announced its own streaming service, Disney+, on November 12, 2019. It has always been Disney’s intention to centralize all Marvel properties under Marvel Studios. As a result, it’s possible that ‘The Punisher’ may go there eventually, and that we’ll see Frank in a program that will air on Disney+. As additional information becomes available, we will add it here.
