The fantasy drama TV show Cursed is based on the same-titled novel by Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler. The first episode of the show came out on Netflix on July 20, 2020, to mixed reviews from critics and users. Cursed fans want to know if there will be a second season now that the first one is over. The series doesn’t have a lot of fans, but there are still a lot of people who love it. Here’s everything you need to understand about season 2 of Cursed.
For those who don’t know, Cursed is about a girl named Nimue who has a few strange people who are to become Lady of the Lake, a character from Arthurian legend. In this, we follow her plotline as she looks for Merlin and tries to give him an old sword. She encounters a young mercenary named Arther on her journey, and he becomes her partner and helps her reach her goals.
Cursed Season 2 Renewal Status
In an ironic twist, the series has been hit by a bigger curse. Cursed is one of the sad shows that Netflix has officially stopped making. Netflix didn’t say anything for a long time about whether or not the show would be renewed. Then, in July 2021, Netflix broke the silence and said that season 2 of the show would not be happening. Netflix did not say anything about why the cancellation happened.
The streamer doesn’t like to talk about why they make big decisions. Netflix also doesn’t say how many people are watching their shows, except for those that are very popular. But it’s likely that the show didn’t live up to what the streamer was hoping for. It is also possible that Netflix dropped the show because it was too expensive to make and the pandemic made things even harder.
Why Netflix Canceled Cursed
Even though the idea for the show was good, season 2 of Cursed Netflix probably decided to cancel because it didn’t meet expectations and didn’t get as many viewers as their other projects.
Cursed got a score of 67% from critics and 53% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, which shows that it got mixed reviews. On top of that, Netflix had to cancel a few shows they had already renewed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. They couldn’t start making the shows, and there are always new shows and movies to make. Less important is whether or not Cursed on Netflix was popular. What’s more important is how famous it was compared to other shows, especially those that could become a franchise. Also, fantasy shows can be more expensive to make because of the sets, costumes, CGI, and other costs.
Still, the cancellation of Cursed’s second season is a bit of a shock for a show that got some attention before it came out. Before Miller and Wheeler’s book came out, Netflix had already ordered the TV show, so everyone was looking forward to it. It seemed like a good idea for Netflix to get Langford, a well-known star from its famous teen drama 13 Reasons Why, to lead the cast of Cursed as Lady of the Lake. As soon as Cursed came out, rumors about a Merlin spinoff began to spread. But despite all the hype, Cursed was only in the top 10 charts for a few weeks, and it doesn’t look like there will be a spinoff.

Cursed Season 2 Plot
Nimue, a fey enchantress, learns to use her powers in the first season after she had ignored them at first. Then, she uses them to save the Fey people from the army of Red Paladins. Aside from that, she goes on a journey to deliver the magical sword Excalibur to Merlin, which was her mother’s dying wish. Along the way, Nimue starts a relationship with Arthur, who is a swordsman.
In the last episode of the season, Nimue carries out her last plan to save the Fey from being killed off by their enemies. She gives in to King Uther’s demands in the hopes that the Church won’t punish her people. When Merlin realizes that Cumber won’t keep his end of the deal, he tries to expose him, but Ruben’s assassin attacks him. Cumber is on the side of the church, so he asks for Nimue in exchange for the sword. The Fey and the Red Spears get into a fight. Morgana saves Nimue from the Red Paladin, and the two of them go to find Merlin. On the way, Iris attacks Nimue, and she seems to die as she falls down the waterfall.
The first episode of Season 2 might tell us if the Lady of the Fire is really dead or not. Also, where is Merlin now that he let Iris and the Paladins feel the power of his magic? If Nimue does survive, there is a chance that he will come back to find her. With his newfound power, Arthur might use the red spear to take the war to the church. It will be fascinating to see how finding out who the crying monk really is will change the main plot.
Will Cursed Season 2 ever happen?
After the news about Cursed came out, some loyal fans started a campaign on social media with the hashtag #SavedCursed to get another streaming service to pick up the show. But the cast members have been let out of their contracts and are now free to work on other projects. This makes it unlikely that the show will come back. Cursed was supposed to have a second season, and season 1 ended with a big cliffhanger where Nimue was shot and thought to be dead. However, it looks like Netflix really did cancel Cursed for good.
Cursed fans can only read one book since Miller and Wheeler haven’t written a follow-up to their first big hit. Wheeler did, however, hint in an Instagram post on July 9, 2021, that she might be writing another book. Cursed probably won’t get a second season on Netflix, but it was good while it lasted, and some of the actors have taken to social media to say how thankful they are to have been a part of the project.
