Advantage and Disadvantage of At-Home Workouts
Save money. If you’re paying for a gym membership, it seems like the logical thing to do would be to actually use it. Problem is, not everyone can get there when they need/want to go and most people end up only using their memberships about 15% of the time they’re supposed to be using them.
So basically they’re paying money to only sometimes use the facilities. Working out at home saves you all that cash, and lets you workout when YOU want to work out not when a gym is open. If you get bored of your home equipment, try working out at a park or jogging around your neighborhood.
At-home workouts are significantly cheaper than gym workouts. You can purchase your own equipment or use what you have at home to work out.
Make your goals achievable. This is good for two reasons:
1) you’re less likely to be discouraged by huge goals that seem too much like a fantasy
2) you’re more likely to stick with it if you know it’s possible to meet smaller goals that you set.
Imagine having a goal to lose 20lbs in 2 months- it’s pretty much impossible unless you’re already extremely fit and following a strict diet. You might get discouraged when you can’t hit that goal, or if you do, what will you have to do next? That’s why setting small mini-goals and celebrating those milestones (like losing 5lbs, 10lbs, etc.) is such a great way to stay on track.
When you work out at home, you can focus on your own personal fitness goals. At the gym, there’s too much going on and it distracts from your own personal achievement of meeting those goals.
Be more motivated:
Whether it’s because you’re proud and excited to show off your new body, or because you know how hard it was to get there and you don’t want to throw away all that work by quitting now- at-home workouts can be so much better than gym workouts because of the increased motivation.
At the gym, it’s easy to be distracted by the other people around you. Whether it’s because they look like they’re working harder than you, or because you want to compare yourself to them in some way- it can take away from your workout and make you feel less motivated.
When there aren’t any distractions, it’s much easier & more motivating to focus on yourself and your workout.
Have more time:
This is one of the biggest reasons people start working out at home- they don’t have enough time to make it to the gym, but still want/need to work out every day.
If you’re on a busy schedule, it can be super frustrating to skip days or only go occasionally because you can never find a time when the gym is open and it’s not packed with people.
Control your environment. This is a huge part of why many people prefer at-home workouts.
It’s your gym, and you get to control the rules. If it’s too cold, turn up the heat. If it’s too bright out, shut the blinds.
You can make everything perfectly comfortable and stress-free for yourself every time you workout (especially if you work out in the comfort of your own home!)
Most people fall into this category because gyms are overcrowded. They’re expensive and for many people, the equipment is outdated or broken. It can be very discouraging to work out at a gym- especially if you’ve had bad past experiences like having to wait for someone else to finish using the machine you wanted to use, but also have them hog it for half an hour because they were talking on the phone or texting.
It’s important to exercise, but it’s also important to make sure you’re choosing a workout plan that suits your lifestyle- which is probably why you want to work out at home! You know what your goals are and how to reach them, so you know exactly what you need from a gym.
Boost Metabolism:
The first thing that many people think of when they hear about home workouts is going to the gym and “losing weight.” If you’re just starting out, it’s normal to have this mindset- but it’s important to know that at-home workouts are also great for boosting your metabolism.
It’s true that weightlifting increases muscle mass, which will help you burn more calories day-to-day- but making sure you’re doing the right kind of exercises is just as important.
Think of it this way:
you can go to the gym and only use the treadmill, but if you work out at home with a combination of cardio and strength training, you’ll get more results faster. This will make it much easier to reach your goal and keep yourself motivated.
No More Gym Memberships:
Gyms are expensive- and they’re getting more expensive all the time. Although it’s great to be able to go in and use everything whenever you want, it can also be a lot of money for people who don’t go very often. If this is your case, switching to at-home workouts will save you tons of money each year!
You can get the same results from at-home workouts that you would by going to the gym- it’s just a matter of finding the right workout plan for you.
Disadvantages of home workouts:
As I had already told you that home workouts have some advantages, but they have some disadvantages too.
There are many people who only focus on the benefits of the home workout and don’t consider the disadvantages. Those people will definitely get more success if they knew about both sides of home workouts.
If you don’t know how to do the exercises, you might get hurt.
If this happens, it will be very hard for you to work out again at home.
If nobody is there with you to motivate you, workouts can become boring easily.
Boredom always kills motivation and workouts are no exception.
If you don’t have any motivation, you won’t be able to do your workouts regularly.
If the equipment isn’t suitable for you, it won’t help you reach your goals.
You might need some equipment that is not available at home.
