Tokyo Vice Season 2 Release Date, Cast, Plot, and Everything You Need to Know

The first season of Tokyo Vice, a crime drama based on the life of American journalist Jake Adelstein, was liked by both fans and critics. So, everyone will be happy to hear that season 2 of Tokyo Vice is on the way.

The creator of the show is J.T. Rogers and others whose big TV project has been the TV movie Oslo, which was based upon his play. The pilot episode was directed by Michael Mann, who is known for his crime stories.

When it premiered on HBO Max last spring, Tokyo Vice proved to be a strong contender in a year that was already full of great TV shows.

It was praised for its smooth cinematography, interesting plot, and rare nuanced portrayal of Japan’s capital and culture. The people in charge of the network took notice, and in June they gave the show a second season.

For those who don’t know, Tokyo Vice is indeed a loose adaptation of Jake Adelstein’s memoir of the same name.

Adelstein is an American journalist who relocated to Tokyo in the 1990s to work at the city’s leading newspaper. He then got too involved in investigating the city’s criminal underpass and its feuding yakuza factions.

An A-list cast, including Ansel Elgort as Jake, Westworld’s Rinko Kikuchi as his editor Emi, this same legendary Ken Watanabe as the grizzled but unbreakable detective Katagiri, Fargo’s Rachel Keller as the enterprising American ex-pat hostess Sam, as well as breakout star Show Kasamatsu as Sato, a rising member of the city’s most powerful yakuza, helped bring this interesting story to the small screen.

After season one, the destinies of several important characters were still up in the air. Now that the dual-language show is officially in production, the countdown to its return has also begun.

Still unknown is how this story will go, but in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, producer, and director Alan Poul talked about what it was like to make the show in Japan.

Tokyo Vice Season 2 Trailer

There isn’t a trailer for season 2 of Tokyo Vice yet. Even the HBO Max video that talks about the fresh season of the series and show clips from season 1 use video from season 1. So, when humans receive the initial footage of new episodes, we’ll post it here.

Tokyo Vice Season 2 Plot

The show Tokyo Vice has been based on Jake Adelstein’s book about his time in 1990s Tokyo covering this same police beat as well as the Yakuza. Some people have asked whether or not Adelstein’s book is based on real events, but we’ll talk about that another time.

In the first season, Jake got a job just on a police beat at a well-known Tokyo newspaper. After some trouble at first, he gets close to a variety of individuals who help him learn more about the Yakuza. This includes his editor, Eimi, a police detective, Katagiri, a member of the Yakuza, Sato, and Samantha, an American hostess.

Jake looks into a series of what seem to be suicides and finds surprising links to the criminal underground. But the more he gets close, the worse things get.

Sam tries to make money so she can start her club, but her connections to the Yakuza as well as her past make things complicated. She is also worried about her buddy Polina, who mysteriously vanishes as well as Jake finding out was killed.

Then there’s Sato, who’s slowly moving up in the Yakuza, but he seems to be torn about what he wants to do with his life.

Sato is attacked, stabbed, and left for dead at the end of season 1, but we do not even know if he lived or died. Was this attack done by a rival Yakuza family, or was it simply done from the inside because Sato had started to question his bosses?

We didn’t see it anywhere else, but it looked awful for the dirty cop Jin Miyamoto, who’d been taken far away by his former mafia bosses just when he seemed to be turning a corner.
