The professional approach of the phones of Cat Phones does that the manufacturer does not produce too much with regard to the actuality. Launches very few and aimed at quite specific sectors, although always interesting for its proposals of functionality and durability, such as its reinforced designs or its thermal cameras. Today we have a new signature phone, the Cat S52.
True to its design and durability policy, the new Cat S52 is once again a phone of those known as rugged. Phones with more resistant housings than usual and prepared to operate in all types of risky environments, including high temperatures. The new Cat S52 is a mid-range phone quite in use, with no features that stand out and place it on a higher level. Starting with its IPS LCD Super Bright screen, apparently designed by LG, which has 5.65 inches, with an 18: 9 ratio, with an HD + resolution 1,440 x 720 pixels and with a Gorilla Glass 6 coating to add more resistance to the set.
The heart of this Cat S52 is a Helio P35 eight-core running at 2.3GHz which is supported on 4GB of RAM and about 64GB of internal storage. We can expand the latter thanks to a microSD that has reserved space in the expansion tray next to the nanoSIM, or to the nanoSIM in case we talk about the double card model.
The Cat S52 is a medium line with Helio P35 processor that stands out for its rugged and non-slip design
The rear camera is from 12 megapixels, a Sony Dual Pixel sensor with 1.4 micron pixels, PDAF focus and electronic stabilization, plus a lens with f / 1.8 aperture. On the front, 8 megapixels for selfies. The phone also has an internal and non-removable 3,100 mAh battery with fast charge, although the manufacturer does not specify the maximum voltage it supports.
In terms of connectivity, we find the aforementioned option of the dual SIM with 4G in addition to WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC chip for mobile payments and various pairings, GPS with support for different systems, USB Type C and headphone jack 3.5 mm The Cat S52 also has a fingerprint reader in the security section.
A tough model
We commented at the beginning that Cat had specialized in launching resistant phones focused mainly on the professional sector, and that starts from the screen itself that is protected with Gorilla Glass 6. But there is more, like the non-slip rubber plate It covers the back of the phone offering better grip and more resistance.
Military certification is common in Cat models, and repeated on board the Cat S52
Not happy with that, Cat has certified the phone with dust and water with the IP68, in addition to adding the military MIL-STD-810G to the set. The brand says that its new Cat S52 is resistant to falls on steel (up to 30 times safe and from 1.5 meters high) and that it withstands thermal shocks in addition to having been subjected to vibration tests and resistance to salt fog.
"Statistically, 1 in 3 Europeans has seriously damaged their phone due to daily crashes and mishaps in the last three years; there are many broken phones. Not only is it a major inconvenience for consumers, but repairing or replacing phones can be extremely expensive. With the Cat S52, we have created a smartphone that will not break. It is a true Cat resistant phone in essence, but it has a conventional design. It is elegant and resistant: it is one less thing to worry about " explains Peter Cunningham, vice president of product portfolio of Bullitt Group.
Versions and prices of Cat S52
The new Bullit Group phone licensed by Caterpillar comes in a single version of both RAM and internal storage, so the sale price is reduced to one. The model will be available in the middle of next December at a price of 499 euros.
