Little has lasted the feeling that HBO did not want more 'Game of Thrones'. After canceling the prequel that Naomi Watts was going to star in, of which a very expensive pilot episode had already been shot, the chain has given the green light to the other one they had underway. It focuses on the Targaryen and in this case they haven't even wanted to wait to see a pilot to commission a first season of 10 episodes that will be seen on HBO Max.

300 years before 'Game of Thrones'

'House of the Dragon' is situated about 300 years before of the events narrated in 'Game of Thrones', so Poniente will already have several similarities with the one we met. The series will revolve around the Targaryen and its history would end up reaching the Dance of the Dragons, a civil war between Rhaenyra and Aegon for succeeding Viserys I Targaryen on the throne.

In this way, HBO guarantees a series with closer ties with 'Game of Thrones', since Martin has written much more about this other era. Which does not mean that it is a surprising decision, because it is still unknown who will lead the cast and perhaps that is why the chain has decided to launch a first poster of the series so that it feels more real than it is at the moment.

The creation of the series has been carried out by Martin and Ryan Condal, known for being responsible for 'Colony'. In addition, the producer Miguel Sapochnik He returns to Westeros, since he will direct the first episode – and it is expected that several more -, also acting as co-showrunner. Remember that he is the man behind episodes such as 'The Battle of the Bastards' or 'The Long Night'.
