The romantic fantasy romance series ‘Bulgasal: Immortal Souls’ is one of several high-voltage, ambitious K-Dramas available on Netflix’s extensive content inventory. Using ancient ideas of karma and cyclical time, series creators Kim Je-Hyeon and Kim Young-Kyu build a complex narrative that spans over a millennium. Dan Hwal transforms into Bulgasal after the loss of his wife and kid and sets out to find the lady responsible for his immortality. The unknowing hero is forced to face his history throughout this procedure.
After its debut in December 2021, viewers were impressed by the show’s original plots, complex characters, atmospheric score, stunning visuals, and dynamic performances from its leading actors. The first season concludes with a cliffhanger that leaves the door open for a second. Is production beginning on Season 2? Let’s do some further digging into this issue.
Bulgasal Immortal Souls Season 2 Renewal Status
TVN and Netflix have yet to make any public statements on a sequel. On the other hand, Bulgasal has consistently rated high as a top K-drama. IMDb and MyDramaList users alike have given the series high marks, awarding it 7.6 and 8.3 points, respectively. While many Western shows have multiple seasons, most Korean dramas only have one. As a result, Season 2 of the K-drama Bulgasal: Immortal Souls’ comeback is up in the air.
Bulgasal Immortal Souls storyline
The first episode takes place in a bleak future when monsters have driven the populace into hiding. There is, however, one that hasn’t been seen before. The Bulgasal is a legendary creature whose existence has been questioned by many. During these times, a shaman will predict that a boy will be born with the Bulgasal curse. It also occurred when a mother passed away during childbirth, sparking fears that her newborn would usher in an age of anarchy. Over time, the youngster matured into an adult on a mission to destroy the monsters responsible for the deaths of so many people.
We saw a mature Dan Hwal, who we later learned had married Dan Sol for practical reasons. His quest for vengeance began after he saw the brutal slaughter of his family at the hands of the Bulgasal. The bulgasal stole his son’s heart as he watched, and Dan Hwal stabbed the bulgasal (who was really Sang Un) in retaliation, swearing that he would track her down in every reincarnation and exact his vengeance.

Bulgasal Immortal Souls Season 2 Plot
When Hwal experiences blood once more, the first season comes to a violent end. He recalls his history, and we go back to the legend of the first Bulgasals, Hwal and Sung-un, from a thousand years ago. Hwal’s curse has held the other characters captive ever since the awful event. Hwal’s death in the past transferred the curse to Ok Eul-tae, who is now human.
Hwal drinks Ok Eul-tae to death and commits himself in the present, leaving the others unscathed. Both Min Sang-un and Detective Kwon perish. Do Yun and Si Ho go back to Hwal’s house. After fifty years, Min Si-ho tracks down the sculptor and potter from his past life, Min Sang-un. A mystery photograph sent to her in the mail prompts her to pay a visit to Hwal’s former residence. Hwal’s reincarnation, meantime, arrives and makes an offer for the residence. The cycle of Sang-un and Hwal running into one other again.
If there is a second season, it may follow Hwal and Sang-un as they continue their lives together. The next second season may reveal whether or not they overcome their horrific beginnings. In a similar vein, the potential second season may set the tale of Bulgasal in earlier times.
Bulgasal Immortal Souls Season 2 Release Date
Premiering on Netflix and tvN on December 18, 2021, Season 1 of Bulgasal: Immortal Souls ran for a total of 13 episodes before ending on February 6, 2022. There are 16 episodes in the first season, and each one is an hour and a half long. At the beginning of Episode 16, the English word “endgame” and its Korean equivalent appear on the screen. It finally puts an end to speculation about a second season. As an added note, the show’s domestic ratings quickly plummeted after a strong debut. The drama has also gained a global audience. If Netflix sees potential in the Dan Hwal and Min Sang-un story, we may get to see it progress. Fans will likely be left wanting more when this season ends.
The drama’s primary players complimented the show’s ingenious plot, engaging characters, atmospheric score, breathtaking visuals, and successful outcomes. There’s still hope for a second season after the explosive conclusion of the first. Ratings for ‘Bulgasal: Immortal Souls’ were inconsistent, and the series finale was quite abrupt, thus it seems doubtful that a second season would be made.
