Benefits and FAQs of Dermaplaning
There’s a certain spring in my beauty step these days. That’s because I recently wrote an article on dermaplaning. Dermaplaning is a procedure where you scrape the dead skin cells from the face for a brighter, smoother complexion.
The Good The majority of readers understood dermaplaning is not an alternative to microdermabrasion or professional peels but complements them in improving skin texture, tone, and clarity.
Benefits of Dermaplaning at Home:
-smooths & brightens skin’s surface
-unclogs pores and prevents blackheads and breakouts before they start
-helps make the foundation go on flawlessly ( you can even wear it alone!)
-increases absorption of serums and moisturizers, giving them a deeper reach into your skin for more dramatic results
-stimulates collagen production for a tighter, firmer face
-the little hairs on your face are sloughed off so you can more easily apply self-tanner & do more precise makeup applications. (Psst… this means no more stained lips from self-tanners!)
-“lifting” effect of the blades, helping to tone facial muscles and keep them tight (I like to think of it as a mini facelift!)
-kinda feels like the best face massage ever!
you should start seeing results instantly. After 2 weeks you should see more dramatic results!
More Benefits:
-Some customers claim that after Dermaplaning, they have seen a decrease in the number of breakouts on their faces. -The Dermaplaning treatment can also be used to remove hair from the upper lip, chin, and even eyebrows!
-Dermaplaning is one of the best exfoliation treatments we offer here at The Skin Studio. If you are looking for skin rejuvenation, brighter, younger-looking skin; this is the treatment for you!
Dermaplaning FAQs:
-The effects of Dermaplaning can last anywhere from 1-3 weeks. -We recommend coming in for a follow-up treatment once or twice a month to keep your skin looking its best. -The treatment is pain-free and can be slightly uncomfortable. -We recommend avoiding the sun for 24 hours following your treatment as your skin is most sensitive to UV rays.
-Dermaplaning isn’t a harsh exfoliation process, so feel free to contact us after treatments if you experience any redness or peeling.
How often should I come in for follow-up treatments?
We recommend coming back for a follow-up treatment once or twice a month.
-Is the Dermaplaning Treatment right for me? The skin on your face is incredibly delicate and any trauma to the skin will result in some sort of damage. Whether that be hyper-pigmentation, redness, or uneven texture.
We recommend that if you are taking any sort of medication (especially Accutane!) to wait until the side effects subside before having this treatment done. This is mainly due to the fact that your skin may become overly sensitive during treatment and you might experience redness or rashes anyway.
-We do not recommend getting a Dermaplaning treatment if you have any of the following: active cold sores, acne/cystic acne, open wounds, rosacea, psoriasis, eczema, broken capillaries, Accutane within the last 12 months, or any skin disorder that may be aggravated by exfoliation. Please consult your dermatologist before scheduling this treatment if you have any of these conditions.
-Dermaplaning is not recommended for pregnant women or anyone on Accutane (Isotretinoin).
What’s the difference between Dermaplaning and Microdermabrasion?
-Dermaplaning is the more superficial version of exfoliation whereas Microdermabrasion gives deeper exfoliation using tiny microcrystals. Both treatments are great options for our clients looking to achieve smoother, brighter skin with no downtime! We offer both of these treatments in our Med Spa!
-Can I still go to the gym right after getting Dermaplaning done? Yes, you can resume your normal skincare and makeup skincare regimen immediately. -What products should I avoid after having Dermaplaning done? We recommend avoiding any harsh exfoliants post-treatment.
Dermaplaning Benefits for Acne:
-Dermaplaning can help treat mild to moderate cases of acne, especially when coupled with hormone therapy. This process helps unclog pores and get rid of whiteheads for clearer skin. As well as being an excellent anti-aging treatment for your face, it can also be used to improve sun damage, acne scarring, and mildly hyper-pigmented skin types.
Although many people come in for the Dermaplaning treatment to rid their faces of peach fuzz, it is just one option! The benefits of this treatment are incredible for all skin types and common complaints.
It can help with:
anti-aging, acne, scarring, sun damage, hyper-pigmentation, eczema, psoriasis, and lastly it is a great treatment for people who have sensitive skin! The Dermaplaning process takes just 15 minutes per face and can be done on all skin types with no downtime! Our estheticians are extremely thorough and make sure to go over every inch of your face. It’s an amazing treatment, you’ll love it!
Disadvantages of Dermaplaning:
-You will have to wait anywhere from 3 days to 1 week before your next chemical peel or any other treatments that may cause peeling. The skin is left very thin and sensitive after this treatment, so there is a small chance of hyperpigmentation occurring after a Dermaplaning treatment.
If you are someone that already has sensitive skin, then you may wish to avoid this treatment. There are other options available that provide the same results without causing your skin to be even more sensitive. Dermaplaning is primarily done on the face alone (although it can be performed on other skin areas), so if you are looking to receive multiple treatments at once, then this might not be the best option.
How long does dermaplaning take? The actual treatment only takes about 15 minutes, depending on how much hair needs to be removed.
How long does the hair take to grow back? There is no downtime and we recommend waiting between 3-5 days before shaving again. The regrowth of your peach fuzz will be much thinner and softer than it had been prior to the treatment after about a week has passed, so you generally won’t need to shave again for at least a week.
However, if you are someone who shaves on a daily basis then it may take slightly longer before the hair returns in full force. For some people, there is no hair regrowth at all and your skin will stay smooth permanently!
How much does dermaplaning cost? Treatment prices vary depending on many factors such as the condition of your skin, how much hair needs to be removed, and what areas need to be treated. We recommend contacting our Medi Spa at (772) 589-7911 for more information!
What does dermaplaning do to the skin?
Dermaplaning is an exfoliation process that removes dead surface skin cells, promotes collagen production, and leaves your skin smoother. It also helps treat acne scars, hyperpigmentation (sun damage), as well as provides a great base for chemical peels and laser treatments.
Dermaplaning vs Microdermabrasion:
Microdermabrasion is often considered the most popular and effective method of exfoliation and removing dead skin cells. However, dermaplaning can provide similar results due to its ability to remove old skin cell build-up on the face.
If you are looking for a more thorough cleanse, then dermaplaning may be the treatment for you. Microdermabrasion can be slightly uncomfortable due to the tiny crystals used during the process, dermaplaning uses a special tool that glides across the skin gently and smoothly.
Dermaplaning is like getting a Microdermabrasion facial without having to deal with all of the crystals. You still get the spa feeling, but it’s much more comfortable and even more effective!
If you are someone who has certain skin conditions or suffers from sensitive skin, then Microdermabrasion may be too harsh for your skin type. Dermaplaning is a great alternative to getting rid of stubborn skin cells but is less abrasive on your skin. It’s also possible to do both treatments in one visit- this would be considered a hybrid treatment. You can ask us about this during your appointment!
What kind of results can I expect?
Dermaplaning is very gentle and leaves the skin silky smooth and feeling brand new. It will also provide you with a nice base for your skin to soak in all of the beneficial products and serums. Dermaplaning is considered an essential part of any skincare regimen because it helps remove dead skin cells, revealing much younger healthier-looking skin.
In addition to providing great results, downtime is almost nonexistent. You can expect to do anything afterward- go back to the gym, run errands, or attend a special event. There are no redness or flaking side effects so you won’t have to worry about looking strange in public!
How many treatments will I need?
Most people require 4-6 treatments, depending on their skin condition and how healthy it looks after the first treatment. To maintain your results you can schedule a follow-up treatment once a month or as needed.
What other types of treatments can be done at the same time?
If you have acne then there are many options that we offer to treat this common problem. You can customize your visit by adding other treatments to your dermaplaning treatment- these additional services will be discussed during your appointment!
What areas of the skin are treated?
The face, neck, shoulders, and décolleté (the area around the collar bones) are all perfect places for this treatment. The best part is that it can be used on any skin type! It’s not just for people with oily or sensitive skin, but also those with dry, severely sun-damaged, or hyperpigmented skin.
What kind of results will I see after dermaplaning?
You will notice a marked difference in the thickness and texture of your skin after just one treatment. The best results are seen after several treatments, but you will immediately notice that your skin is smoother and softer!
How long does it take?
Depending on the size of the area being treated (for example, if treating both the face and neck), dermaplaning takes about 30 minutes for one full face and décolleté. If you choose to add additional treatments (such as a peel or laser) then the procedure will take about 45 minutes for one full face and neck area.
Dermaplaning is performed with special skincare instruments that glide across the skin allowing older, damaged skin cells to gently exfoliate and reveal younger, healthier skin with a nice glow. It can also be used to help exfoliate acne scarring and reduce pore size.
Dermaplaning is one of the most effective ways to rejuvenate your skin without causing more stress or damage. Ask our estheticians about adding this treatment into your facial during your next appointment!
Don’t forget– if you have any questions then please don’t hesitate to ask one of our estheticians. We are here to help you achieve the best results for your skin!
